Well, no matter how far we make it at least nobody can say we’ve had an easy road.
Scratch that, they probably will say it… they just won’t be right.
January 8th, 2007 at 11:44 am
We will tear these motha’s apart at the emirates.
January 8th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
We’ve got Thierry Henry.
We can beat anyone!
January 8th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Its almost as if you disbelieve in the capability of this team. Yes Titi is GOD..theres no denying that but its almost like you can’t believe that this team is good even without Titi. That it scored 15 damn goals in the 6 games he wasn’t here. Yes Titi is great and he makes oppositions quiver but he’s not a 1 man team and the team has done it without him and will do it again without him.
So give the team credit when they deserve it. Having said that I think Bolton will meet their match this time and we will beat them.
We would have beaten them at the Reebok had Freddie’s header not come off the post or had we scored before Le Sulk scored the third. We have not been dominated physically anywhere this season unless you count Sheffield United where we were dreadful.
Point being: We’ll win
January 8th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
We’ve certainly lost more games with Henry this season than without him. Still, I’m glad he’s back - as long as plays for the team and puts more effort in.
January 8th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
A team with 11 Pele won’t beat anyone. It’s a TEAM game.
January 8th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
A team with ONE Pele, is better than a team without one.
We are far better with Thierry Henry.
I don’t care how many we won or lost with or without him.
With a healthy Thierry Henry, Arsenal Football club are a dangerous team, that can beat anyone, on any given day.
Without him in the line-up… in 100% health, we are a team that struggles day to day… and are very inconsistent…
Its just factual.
You don’t have to like it.
You might not want to hear it.
But these are the facts.
January 8th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Quit moaning boys and let’s consider, in my opinion, that we are lucky to face Bolton in London versus at the Reebok. I am confident as this tie will be played at home. We have an awful record at the Reebok over the past few seasons.
January 8th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
Hmm…. payback time!
January 8th, 2007 at 4:01 pm
forget about stag, he loves making retarded comments.
January 8th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
stag, why do you always have to find a way to MOAN all the f-cking time.
get a grip.
January 8th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
I don’t even see the point of this. Is there anyone here who would NOT want a FIT Henry in the team? No. He was only criticised in the first place because he was playing like a w*nker - everyone could see that - now he’s been rested and seemingly back to normal. So where’s the debate?
January 8th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Stag, you mix truth, half-truths and lies and try to present it as fact.
“We are far better with Thierry Henry”. This season, this is a LIE. The statistics show we are better without him.
“A team with ONE Pele, is better than a team without one”. Half-truth. You can point to Maradona dragging a very poor Argentina to a World Cup. On the other I never saw George Best’s Northern Ireland or Ryan Giggs’ Wales even qualify for a World Cup. Neither Ronaldinho or Shevchenko improved their teams at the last World Cup.
“With a healthy Thierry Henry, Arsenal Football Club are a dangerous team” TRUE, there is nobody on this site who would disagree with that statement.
“without him in the line-up….in 100% health, we are a team that struggles day to day…and are very inconsistent..” LIE, we have played very well without Thierry Henry, winning at Old Trafford and as pointed out above, our record this season is better without him.
THE REAL TRUTH is that the team has suffered and played badly when a half-fit Henry was in the team. The blame for this is shared between Wenger and Henry. Henry for not admitting he was injured and out-of-form, Wenger for not spotting it earlier and dropping him sooner. None of this takes away from the fact that Henry is the best player in the Arsenal squad.
January 8th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Looking forward to this game. They will really have a go at us.
January 9th, 2007 at 6:17 am
This should be a good test. We are up for big games but have struggled against Bolton, Portsmouth, etc. Same with this weekend’s game against Blackburn.
January 9th, 2007 at 7:10 am
The Carling Cup squad has Toure but no Senderos. I was hoping Toure would be rested.
January 9th, 2007 at 7:48 am
I think he could do with a week off too. I don’t really care about the result of this game and I’d be very surprised if Wenger put out a full strength squad. We have a lot of big games coming up and I’d rather our kids faced Tottenham in the semi-final or not play it at all.
January 9th, 2007 at 11:27 am
These are your OPINIONS.
So you can say whatever you like, so can I.
We are better with Thierry Henry.
If you disagree, stay off the drugs.
Real simple.
I will continue to state my opinions… thats what the site is about.
January 9th, 2007 at 11:28 am
I hope we play hard and play some of our first team.
We should be trying to WIN every trophy possible.
January 9th, 2007 at 11:40 am
Maybe a couple of first teamers - no more, if we win tonight we’ll be playing on the 13th/17th/20th/24th/27th/30th January and 3rd February, that’s 7 games in 21 days.
We’re only just starting to get our injuries back, if you persist with first teamers in that schedule then by the time the Champions League starts we’ll have another 10 players on the treatment table.
This cup means nothing to no-one. Sure it would be fun to see the Arsenal win it - but not at the expense of key injuries.
I reckon the team will be something like: Almunia, Eboue, Djourou, Senderos, Clichy, Traore, Denilson, Song, Walcott, Baptista, Van Persie. If that is the team I think we’ll lose - but I still hope it is.
January 9th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
Fabregas to lead out the site with Toure and Djourou playing at Center Back…His suspension surely did not give him ENOUGH rest on the weekend…
January 9th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
The upcoming schedule you have outlined if Arsenal wins today’s game, i.e., games on the 13th/17th/20th/24th/27th/30th January and 3rd February, constitutes fixture congestion of the type we always dread in late December-early January. Notwithstanding Stag’s view that Arsenal should try to win every game, it really seems against Arsenal’s interests (in the FA Cup, Champions League and Premiership) to win this game. By the way, the Arsenal starters are Almunia, Hoyte, Toure, Djourou, Traore, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Denilson, Baptista and Aliadiere. I suspect the substitutes, with the exception of Diaby, do not particularly cause fear amongst Reds supporters as they arePoom, Connolly, Lansbury and Randall. In short, Wenger is using this game properly as a testing ground. The inclusion of Toure and Fabregas is perhaps a nod to the fact that Liverpool is including Gerrard and Bellamy as starters and have Alonso, Crouch, Garcia, Carragher and Reina on the bench.
January 9th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
Carling Cup tie tonight and it would be nice to see Abou get in the game at some point.
Welcome back Vassiriki, and UP the ARSE!!!
January 9th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
There YOU GO all you Aliadiere haters.
1-0 J.Aliadiere on the scoreboard.
ENJOY.
More to come.
January 9th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Don’t like Bolton and their style of game - that northern English thug mentality coupled with long balls and a very defensive style.
I hope that the game opens up and Bolton let Arsenal play but that probably won’t happen unless Arsenal “draw first blood”.
So hoping for the first goal to be the Gunners and then it should be fun match.
We should have a lot of first team players back from injury, which for me is a lot to be happy about.
Go you Red, go Gunners go.
January 9th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
4-1 up at half time. This is insanity.
January 9th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
We play SIX teenagers, and lead 4-1 by half time!
January 9th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
No-one hates him you muppet. Besides, it’s about time he did something after 7 years - pleased for him, but more pleased for Baptista.
January 9th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
Aliadiere’s goal is class. Gotta be fair to him. So did Baptista’s free kick.
Keep it up lads, or should I say boys, and do us pround in the second half!
January 9th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Even Song scored (3rd), go figure! Baptista on a FK (2nd). 3-1 Arsenal at the half. Benitez will be fried. Each team with 3 first teamers: Fab, Toure, Hoyte (I know, I know). Pud have Gerard, Bellamy, Hyypia and alot of fill in the blanks.
January 9th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
Last game we had Rosicky come out of his shell and scored a brace… and today it’s Baptista with a brace and Aliadiare scoring and setting up one.
This year has been great thus far!
January 9th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
Baptista and Aliadiere have been SLATED all over this site.
I for one, don’t give up on players after they get like 3 matches.
It takes TIME and PLAYING TIME for players to get their feet under them.
I hope ALI and THE BEAST combine for about 8 goals tonite.
January 9th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Thought I would check the score.WOW
What is going on. Can we play Liverpool every week?
Stunned really. I was simply hoping that this game didn’t end in a tie as Arsenal would have been forced to play another needless game. But this is incredible. Can’t believe my eyes.
Really wish I can see the game (or even highlights) later tonight. Amazing score-line.
January 9th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I don’t care if this is ‘just’ the Carling Cup. Somebody will win it and why shouldn’t that somebody be us. 4-1 up with essentially a reserve team makes a statement about the depth I seriously thought was lacking. It is also a testament to having faith in Wenger no matter what. I’m also pleased that Aliadiere and Baptista are having great games that hopefully will carry over to the EPL.
January 9th, 2007 at 4:16 pm
5-1 now.. Baptista with a hat-trick and a missed penalty. Dudek was hero saving the penalty one minute than immedately he was all over the 6-yard box and conceded a 5th.
Very intersting season for Arsenal isn’t it? We had Henry underperforming in the 1st half of the season, then injured *rested*… And even with Gilberto, Van Persie and Adebayor stepping up with the goals, no one has score a hat-trick this season. Baptista starting only his 3rd or 4th game and he gets 3….
i’m listening to Arsenal TV online (live) and can’t believe it… my boss is wondering why i’m pumping my fist every now and then!!!
Go GUnners!!!!
January 9th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
The F*****G BEAST UNLEASHED. 5-1 Arsenal and Baptista has 3!
January 9th, 2007 at 4:19 pm
Sticking it to the Reds in stereo! 61st minute of the FA Cup match being replayed on FSC, 67th minute of Carling Cup match live on Setanta - I’m in heaven!
January 9th, 2007 at 4:41 pm
Baptista now has FOUR! Absolutely incredible!
January 9th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
The last team scored 6 at Anfield was Birmingham back in the 30s. We did it with six teenagers in the team? Somebody pinches me!
January 9th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Stop being an arsehole. Baptista has not been slated - except by you probably. How can he be slated when he’s only started 4 games?
As for Aliadiere, he was excellent tonight. But he’s been at the club 7 years and done pretty much f*ck all - so what the hell you expect people to say about him??
Anyway, this is all about YOU, not Aliadiere. Because YOU have idiotically over-praised him for no good reason and now when he has ONE very good game - in 7 years - you have predictably tried to bolster your own wimpy ego, which makes you look an even bigger w*nker than you’ve looked before, if possible.
January 9th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
So should we play with 11 teenagers & drop 11 goals on somebody?
January 9th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
Nearly spot on Stag, 5 between them + penalty miss and several missed chances…
January 9th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Buying in the transfer window? Hell, I think Wenger now has a problem of having too many players for him to pick!
Though it’s against a weaken Liverpool backline, the goals and performance Baptista and Aliadiere put up will inevitably give their confidence a hugh lift. And with van Persie and Adebayor both started to hit form, and Henry looks like his old self, who AW are going to play up front?
January 9th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
Good calculation haha!
January 9th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Pleasant surprise reallly, Well done boys…Is the Beast unleashed?
January 9th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
Personally, I'd like to see Henry & Adebayor. I like Adebayor's versatility & work-rate over Van Persie right now. While Van Persie can pull off those moments of brilliance with his left foot, like Danny T pointed out though, he's too left-footed & tends to be a little predictable too often.
So anyway, I'd like to see Henry playing off Adebayor up front with Van Persie coming off the bench as a late substitute to nick a goal late.
January 9th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
It was an incredible result - the sort you never forget. Arsenal’s midfield didn’t even play that well. Song was the best of the four, Fabregas was quite good - not his best game, Denilson didn’t do much and Walcott was poor - nothing came off for him all night.
Could you say the defence played that well? It conceded 3 goals? Hoyte was non-existant, all Liverpool’s dangerous moments came from his side, Traore played like a 17 year old.
It was just superb forward play by Aliadiere and Baptista, although Liverpool’s defence was absolutely criminal defensively. You have to hand it to Baptista though, his free kick was stunning and his movement and finishing ultra-clinical.
Brilliant entertainment.
January 9th, 2007 at 5:12 pm
The man of the match I will go for Aliadiere and Toure. Wearing the armband for the first time, Toure was his usual solid self, cleared everything within his territory.
Though the Beast hit 4, 3 of them Aliadiere played a part in it. In order for Aliadiere to make an impact, I believe he need to play off a strong target man. Ali’s weakness is his strength, not strong enough to hold the ball up. But the boy got skills, when he plays facing the goal, he becomes more effective.
Accordingly Wenger hasn’t decided whether to keep the Beast or not, and there is news that Aliadiere may be sold. Tonight’s performance from the pair probably threw a lifeline to their Arsenal future respectively.
January 9th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Danny, the best thing of playing a young team, or a young back 4 is - you know they can only get better.
the 3 goals we conceded, there was really only one defensive mistake (the 3rd one). Who could stop Gerrard’s screamer? And we already got player closing him down. And Fowler’s cheeky backheel, that was Fowler’s trademark, can’t see how our defence could stop it neither.
January 9th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
No, I agree. I’m just saying the team did not play magnificently well, only certain players.
To score 6 without playing magnificently well is quite something, I’m sure you’ll agree.
January 9th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Couldn’t be happier with the result! I listened on Arsenal TV (those commentators are still rubbish) and couldn’t believe what was happening. It may only be the Carling Cup but that’s a crushing defeat anytime, anywhere. I’m hoping this is the start of something for Baptista, I’d really like to see him make good.
Anyone who watched the game got comments on our defense? Letting 3 in isn’t great, but I’m guessing you don’t try as hard at 5-1 up.
January 9th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
It sure beats playing brilliantly & not scoring
January 9th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
At the very least, this might get Aliadiere noticed by other teams OR perhaps get the Arsenal a bit more in transfer money for him!
He’s got skills. He showed MAD SKILLZ tonite with Baptista. They can both play footy… the could both do with a run of games. But that is NOT going to happen here at the Arsenal. Neither Baptista or Aliadiere are going to be playing up front in the EPL or CL. Not over Henry RVP and Adebayor. Nor should they. I think they made a point tonite… they screamed HEY… WE CAN PLAY!!!
Great stuff.
6-3 over Liverpool!
9-4 over Liverpool in 4 days!
A good run out for a bunch of young Arsenal players.
If Ali and Bap are available to play against Spurtz in the CC semi’s… then they should be given the opportunity.
Well done.
January 9th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
Don’t we all know that sad story.
January 9th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
Garcia was a step offside on the Fowler goal. Baptista was way offside on his 1-2 with Aliadiere, so it evens out. Hyypia’s goal (3rd) was our usual set piece let down. Gets lost in the glare of a 6 goal mauling.
January 9th, 2007 at 11:32 pm
76 years to be exact. Another team ‘gored’ by Arsenal. Its one thing to do that at home. When you take a young team into Anfield and do that, that gets you’re attention. You can bet your bottom dollar (or euro, or pound) that Sp*rs won’t be ’suckered’ into starting a young side. Wenger basically has these managers by the balls. He plays a young side, the world knows he’s playing a young side and thats a problem for other managers. Do they go strong and look classless or do they go weak and get benitezed. It’s a lose-lose situation. If they win, big deal, they beat a bunch of kids and if they lose, then don’t show your face.
January 10th, 2007 at 10:31 am
well said, danny.
indeed, stag says he doesn’t give up on players after 3 games, but he sure gave up on the team after the first 3 games this season. then, when we went on that early mini winning streak, he starts talking about how the season is a marathon not a sprint.
typical
