I’m in Rhode Island… any pubs around here to watch Arsenal? Poser for Wenger
Jan 11

Just a thought, but he would go from being one of the best CBs in the world, to easily the best RB in the world!

A defence then of Clichy-Senderos/Djorou-Gallas-Toure?. That is such a good defence it is scary!

With 4 top class CHs, Arsene is going to need to find a way to keep them all happy, otherwise Senderos and Djourou will start agitating for a move? could this be the way, or will Toure be unhappy at RB?

Athough this could all be a moot point if Gallas never recovers fitness!

Also, does anyone know Gilbert?s form has been at Cardiff? Would he be challenging Eboue/Hoyte?

Add a left winger (Ribery?! Yes please) and reserve left back, and Arsenal will have no excuses for not challenging very strongly for all competitions next year?.

I think I might go renew my membership right now :)

Toure as a right back? Well, I think he would play in that position quite good, but we should leave him as a CB, he is our best performer in the defence. As you said, we have Eboue, who can be the best right back in the world, Hoyte and Gilbert, so leave the the RB position to them, especially to Eboue and Gilbert.

And if we move Toure from his position, I think we should put him in Silva’s role as a difensive midfielder. He would be the best holding midfielder in the world.

Left winger? Well, we certanly need one, I say go for Ribery, he is my first choice, but if we can’t get him, we should go for someone like Gamst Pedersen, Malouda, Nani, Quaresma…

Reserve left back? Traore looks promising, but I think we should recruit one. My first choice is Gareth Bale from Southampton, and I think he will compete with Clichy for the first team, not just be a reserve. My second choice was Marcelo, but he has gone to Real Madrid, and I don’t have a third one. So that leaves Bale as an only candidate.

With these signings we should be able to win both the EPL and CL next year.

we should bring Ronaldo to Arsenal … for variouse reasons:

    1- Marketing
2- To have an extra striker
3- Could be a great motivation for the rest

  3. chalfie(2) Says:

Moving Toure to right back lessens the importance and impact he can have on the game.

Yes he has the pace to play at RB and the positioning, and he does cover well when Eboue goes up field. He also likes to charge forward on occasion, but his final ball, or the whipped in cross is not his forte.

Gallas & Toure are a great partnership, but are not the tallest, I dont think either of them are above 6 foot.

Djourou is gradually proving his worth, and I noted that he has already played 25 times this season. He is much taller and a natural defender, but lacks and real attacking form or talent.

Gilbert has been playing well for Cardiff, in fact I caught a bit of the game against Spurs in the cup, and he seemed at home playing against them, and found himself in plenty of attacking positions.

I personally think that Djourou, Gallas & Toure are really good CB’s however we can only play 2, and injuries, suspension and rests, they will all get games, but Djorou is third coice, but could replace Gallas when he retires, in a few years.

  4. DannyT Says:

We should be saying goodbye to Hoyte and Senderos - Hoyte is a donkey and Senderos is only useful for about 10% of games. You’ll never win a title with them two playing for a large part of the season.

Is Clichy good enough? Everyone thinks he will just get better and better, but that doesn’t always happen to young players. What about Eboue? Good going forward ok, but at the moment he simply can’t defend - and he’s a lousy cheat as well.

No, the defence is far from perfect. Toure, Gallas & Djorou for me are the 3 players you can rely on - the rest of them are not. We should get Lauren back in for a start.

  5. rocka23 Says:

Thought about that, but then someone is going to get annoyed with lack of games, and I would rather it be eboue/hoyte than senderos/djourou. I just think they are more valuable players, and this move might be a way to keep all 4 CHs at the club.

I agree with toure as a defensive midfielder, but I have high hopes for denilhson, diaby and flamini taking this role over, and think that toure can be better utilised in defence…

Bale is good, but very young, personally I would rather someone older with a bit more experience. But I do think Clichy is just getting better and better, and has made the LB spot his own. Traore can be the young up-and-coming LB…

  6. SassyMonkey Says:

Kolo could play almost any position on the pitch, heck, even outfield goalkeeper. But he belongs somewhere in the Arsenal spine, not on the outside. I think it’s quite premature to be calling Senderos and Djourou top class CHs, especially since Senderos’ stock plummets when it comes to European competition. Some of the defensive mistakes Clichey has made recently have been very worrisome, and Eboue has his diving. I’m not saying there’s more bad than good as there’s certainly great potential as ever, but there is also the potential for it not to pan out as expected.

Is Lauren actually leaving? I’d be happy if he retires an Arsenal man. If we’re to continue our push for trophies and league success this season then we could really use him back.

  7. SassyMonkey Says:

Oh, but do feel free to pass along whatever Kool-Aid it is you’re drinking. ;)

  8. stag133 Says:

What the hell has Lauren ever done wrong?
He’s been very good and very consistent. He was arguably our best defender before he got hurt last season, and was VERY consistent…

Yet he gets healthy… and Eboue hasn’t exactly been great of late… and all we here about is him going to West Ham?

Not sure how this makes sense exactly.
We could definitely use a veteran defender who provides a steady influence.

Why let him go at all…

  9. SassyMonkey Says:

I think the only thing he’s guilty of is not stepping on the pitch for us recently. Way harsh considering all he’s done.

  10. DannyT Says:

Lauren is a decent, reliable Premiership defender and better than anything we’ve got in that position at the moment. I will concede that he has been the one defender to cost us in the Champions League, he really did make a lot of mistakes over the years in that competition.

If Eboue keeps playing like an ass, we really should be looking to put Lauren straight back in or buy in that position. Hoyte has no future at the club whatsoever.

  11. Seattlegooner Says:

I don’t think Ronaldo ever will or should ever be brought to Arsenal. He is at the age where skills and speed start diminishing. Not to mention the injuries and fitness problems. Plus, I think Arsenal have plenty of strikers who are better suited to the English game.

  12. Seattlegooner Says:

What may be an issue with Lauren - and I’ve read some rumors of this - is that he wants to return to Spain. If that’s the case, it may not matter how much money he is offered to stay. Personally, I would like to see him stay.

  13. stag133 Says:

We’re talkin’ WEST HAM here… about as far from Spain as you can get!

I hold no grudge against a player that wants to leave for greener pastures.
But it seems to me we are SHOPPING him.

He doesn’t “want” to go to West Ham!

  14. VillageGooner Says:

I agree with Danny and Stag. Why let Lauren leave? Wenger’s comments on Lauren say Lauren is free to leave and, thus, surplus to requirements. I think Wenger really respects Lauren and his willingness to let him leave suggests possibly that Lauren has not been able to make a full recovery. Otherwise, this makes no sense.

  15. irishgunner Says:

Do you mean Real Madrid Ronaldo? Can he still run? Henry would have to beat players three times before Ronaldo would catch up with the play.

  16. irishgunner Says:

I would prefer to see Lauren kept. I don’t like Eboue’s cheating. He has to clean up his act pronto or I want him out of the club, no matter how good or bad a player he is. Hoyte is a useful squad player, can start ten games a season, can play across the back four so is a useful sub, but he will probably never be a first choice. If Wenger is letting Lauren go, he must think Eboue will make it and that Hoyte and Gilbert provide more than adequate back-up. I have my doubts.

  17. gunner4life Says:

Yes Lauren had been a loyal servant. He may be tough as nail but he no longer have the speed to deal with the likes of Ronaldos and Robbens. Thats where Eboue and Hoyte have the advantage. However I believe Wenger shud have retained Lauren for his experience for another 2 years rather than to release him now.

  18. Seattlegooner Says:

At the very least, getting AROUND Ronaldo would be a problem for Henry.

  19. Seattlegooner Says:

Well, it may be an issue of trying to get something for him if he is going to leave on a free at the end of the year. I would like to think that Arsenal would treat him better than that, but it is a business.

  20. stag133 Says:

    It is a business.
Thats why when a player like STOKES or BENDTNER leave… I don’t want to hear the utter crap on this site about how they should be patient and wait their turn at Arsenal.

Lauren is a CLASS player. Always plays hard. Very consistent. Very good player. Never talks shite or dives… or any of that non-sense.
Yet it appears we are showing him the door. He lost his place because he got injured??
There isn’t another right back at the club that is as good as Lauren. This makes no sense at all.

  21. stag133 Says:

    Frankly, he’s being disrespected.
He is our best option at right back… he never says anything. Just plays football, giving his all … every time on the pitch. No trash talk, no diving, just good hard football.

This makes no sense at all.
He essentially lost his position because he got injured?
    Something STINKS about this.

  22. stag133 Says:

Its very apparent, that if Wenger is letting a player like Lauren leave, he feels Eboue is the answer.
He doesn’t care about the diving… or his act.
He would not let Lauren walk if he didn’t feel Eboue was the replacement.
Eboue is going nowhere if Lauren leaves. Its as simple as that.
I’d take Lauren every day of the week over Eboue.
    Just solid no frills defending.

  23. DannyT Says:

Well you just have to trust Wenger and the club. Lauren has been injured for an awfully long time, maybe Wenger feels he will never again be the player he once was. It’s Wenger who sees him in training and has to make a decision based on the club’s medical consultants.

If there is any chance Lauren could be the player he once was within 3 months then I think he should stay, but maybe Wenger’s been told that’s not going to happen.

I certainly don’t think he should stay because he’s been a loyal servant, no player should, that would not be to the benefit of Arsenal Football Club.

  24. DannyT Says:

If Eboue keeps up this cheating I think for the first time in my life I’m going to write to the club and protest. I hope other Arsenal fans will as well - the player is despicable. He can turn it all round if he cleans up his act, he has the potential to be a great player.

  25. nipuna Says:

Wenger has cleared the air on many players.

Lauren will be allowed to leave.

Ljunberg is going anywhere, atleast until the summer.

About players on loan, Swedish midfielder Sebastian Larsson might be sold but his fellow loanees Nicklas Bendtner and Fabrice Muamba will not be leaving Arsenal.

I am only shocked by Lauren, but Wenger must have his reasons and good ones too.

  26. kicksmartArsenal Says:

What happened to Eboue in all this? — I think Eboue is making a case for best RB.
I agree it’s nice to be back to a strong defense like in the Tony Adams’ days…truthfully our only weak spot now is GK — though I’ve always liked Almunia better than Lehman.

Senderos/Djourou can’t make a case for 1st team yet above Gallas, Toure, Eboue, Clichy.
