Replacing Gilberto Yanks Invade Emirates, and Find a Magical “Place”, Pt. 1…
Jan 19

I will be in San Jose between Jan 19 and Feb 4. I’ll be staying and working near Tasman Drive. Please suggest on which TV channels I can catch Arsenal games in the EPL, FA Cup and Carling Cup, specifically the ManU game on Jan 21. Is there any place nearby where Arsenal fans get together to watch the games live?

Thanks

A friend visiting from England and staying in San Jose a few months back, watched some of the match at the Britannia Arms, though I would call first just to confirm they’re showing it. Good Luck. Post back here if that turns out to be a good San Jose location.

The match is showing on the West Coast live at 8:00 am on Fox Soccer Channel (613 on DirecTV, 401 on Comcast).

Damn. Finally a question at which I might have some expertise, and I was beaten to the punch. Feverpitch’s answers were spot on - the place to watch would be Britannia Arms (Almaden Expy and Cherry - maybe 15 mins drive from Tasman area); the problem is the usual one for us on the west coast - early morning starting times, and these bars not usually opening that early. That being said, for big games they do open up, and of course in our world this is as big as it gets. Still one never knows… call them. As for TV, fever also is right on there - the other channel games get shown on is Setanta (direcTV 615) but that is a pay extra channel. The ManU game is on FSC.

We came over from London and spent a few weeks in Aptos in September. We went to the Britannia Arms in Cupertino and watched the Man Utd away game. It was on at about 8 in the morning and they made us some breakfast. There were about half a dozen gooners, but quite a few ex-pat Mancs, who must be working nearby. Homeland Security? How on earth do you let them in the country? Anyway, they all went awfully quiet when Adebayor popped up and scored. Us gooners, meanwhile, went mental. Loved it. Drove back to the coast and sat on the beach. How good does it get? Watch you don’t get lost on the motorway network round the town. We almost ended up by the airport.

I am a Gunner living in Oakland, about 20 miles north of San Jose. A good place to go is Ricky's Sports Theatre in San Leandro, which is about 15 miles north of san jose(Ricky's.com). The ManUre game is on Fox Soocer Channel at 8 AM. The problem is that Ricky's only opens at 9. Should probably call just to make sure they show it. They have great Plasma TVs. Most of my friends who are Gunners have cable, most of the fans in the bay area watch at home because the games are early. I used to watch it at my mates house until he moved back to Islington.
