No Baptista :(. Adebayor/Aliadiere. Fabregas to rest. Diaby/Denilson in CM with Gilberto at DM. Hopefully Sp*rs CBs will play patty-cake with the GK like they did against Southend.
January 30th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Can’t wait.
Ali and Ade.
Could be a lack of creativity in midfield without Cesc… but maybe Denilson will turn on the “Brazilian”…
Go Gunners.
January 30th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
Could Spurs be the first team to win at the Emirates? Heaven forbid. Losing Baptista and Fabregas will hurt us, and I think Fabregas really HAS to be rested. Very hard to predict, but I get the feeling if Tottenham score first, Arsenal won’t come back this time.

Is Henry on the bench?, who else is playing?, Flamini, Walcott?
Maybe we’ll see Francisco Merida Perez or Nacer Barazyte…
January 31st, 2007 at 9:17 am
According to arsenal’s website Wenger has chosen these players to go to White hart lane but i don’t know who’s on the bench and who is starting. Maybe this match decides whether or not Wenger runs out to the store and buys somebody tonight. The Cole/Gallas deal was last minute deal, maybe we get another surprise.
2. Abou Diaby
4. Francesc Fabregas
5. Kolo Toure
6. Philippe Senderos
7. Tomas Rosicky
15. Denilson
16. Mathieu Flamini
19. Gilberto
21. Mart Poom
22. Gael Clichy
24. Manuel Almunia
25. Emmanuel Adebayor
30. Jeremie Aliadiere
31. Justin Hoyte
32. Theo Walcott
45. Armand Traore

Wenger will not start players like Merida or Barazyte. I think I read somewhere he plans to partner Gilberto with Flamini so there goes the creative midfield part. And also Wenger intends to persist with Walcott. I find it incredible that Wenger is giving Walcott so many chances in the first team when players like Ali are not even close to the bench. Is Walcott performing so well in training? Or Wenger is trying to play him out of his ’slump’? Either way, I think it is wrong to start Walcott in the big matches bcos he is too young and lack the experience. Letting him come on as a sub would be a better option for now.

Wenger couldn’t care less about Aliadiere, he has not intention to keep the player but just thinks he’s a useful 5th choice striker. If Aliadiere is stupid enough to stay that’s his problem.
I would really like to see Walcott play up front with Adebayor - he’s too physically weak to play on the wing, keeps getting outmuscled. Play him through the middle then at least defenders will be scared to tackle him or he can break the offside trap.
I’d play Hoyte and Eboue on the right, it would be interesting to see how Eboue would do as a right winger.
January 31st, 2007 at 1:47 pm
Danny T, I don’t think Eboue is playing.
I’m expecting to see Denilson start tonight and I think he will show his worth. He looked really good last week against Spurs and it only makes sense to give him this run. We’ll see what happens.
January 31st, 2007 at 1:59 pm
What’s really impressed me about Denilson is that he’s said he wants to challenge Cesc for his spot. That’s what I’m talking about; a player that wants to come in and challenge one of the best players in the world (All-UEFA team) for his spot instead of just waiting for a hand-me-down from the coach. That takes some big-ole shined-up brass balls, brother. How many players do you hear about that would say, “Oh, I can’t go there because so-and-so is there”? You hear that all the time, but not today.
I’ll take a player with Denilson’s character on my team every day, all day. Denilson, in the past week you’ve made a new fan, young man.
January 31st, 2007 at 3:01 pm
!
you are funny.
January 31st, 2007 at 3:46 pm
I’m sorry boys as I know it’s only halftime but Denilson is a fine signing for Arsenal. The kid can play. He’s got good vision, good touch,, he’s not afraid to shoot, and is a descent tackler considering his size. Too bad he wasn’t here while Bergkamp was still playing as I’m sure The Great One would have some tips for the young prodigy.
Wenger is absolutely amazing. People in Brazil didn’t even know about this kid and Arsene still found him and is sure to turn him into a star.

January 31st, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Good luck to him. If he’s at Arsenal this time next year I’ll fly to America and buy you a beer.
January 31st, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Yup, can’t do it anymore. Gotta get someone new.
January 31st, 2007 at 5:52 pm
wow…..we prolly went took the hardest route to a carling cup final possible, westbrom, everton and liverpool away, then the spurs……and now the russian chums.
very good learning experience for our B team…..and great we denied the spuds! ha!
u know it was very BIG of traore to pretend he was injured so that clichy would come on for him. that was actually a noble thing for him to do because he was getting BEAT like a drum at a carnival! TIME AND TIME AGAIN.
immediately clichy came in, spurs stopped attacking our left and moved over to hoytes side.
i dont want to be harsh on a 17 yr old but he still has quite some way to go…he surely should NOT start the final.
January 31st, 2007 at 5:59 pm
so for the final, the only players that are not going to play for sure are Henry and Lehmann.
Almunia, Hoyte, Denilson, Diaby, Walcott, Aliadiere and Baptista are the second teamers assured of their place. they DESERVE it.
The first teamers likely are: Toure, Senderos, Gilberto, Fabregas, Clichy, Rosicky and Adebayor. With Poom as back up goalie.
That is 15. Leaving room for one more spot…probably Eboue if fit or Flamini.
January 31st, 2007 at 6:14 pm
There were many positive tonight. From the non-regulars, I was struck by the performances of Denilson, Diaby (I didn’t know he had skills), Hoyte, and Aliadiare. I think Denilson and Diaby were particularly impressive. Theo was disappointing but there’s no teaching speed and I think Wenger et al will be able to teach him what to do with the ball when he’s freed himself of coverage as he did repeatedly today. I don’t understand, however, why Theo’s still taking corners when his skills there are distinctly inferior to those of Denilson (for one.) Anyway, it’s a good night to be an Arsenal fan.
January 31st, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Cool finish by Ade. Great finish by Ali. Almost cool finish by Rosicky (atleast ended up in the goal).
Still worried about conceding on free-kicks, especially Toure.
It will VERY interesting to see what team AW puts in the final.
GO GUNNERS!!!
January 31st, 2007 at 6:49 pm
Haven’t beaten Chelsea since Mourinho came. Now is the time.
January 31st, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Not only is he going to be at Arsenal next year, but he’s going to be starting next to Henry regularly.
Arsene hates him so much, he’s not only gonna keep him, he’s gonna keep playing him.
Enjoy.
He’ll be starting in the CC FINALS against Chelski.
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!
January 31st, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Our Carling Cup Darlings did it again tonite.
I have to say that it is very enjoyable to watch these kids go out there and play with heart and determination.
It was a very entertaining match to watch. It was fun.
We’ve made the finals of the CC… and for some, its a meaningless trophy… but for the young players, that Wenger has given the chance to start and shine in this competition, its not meaningless at all.
We sprinkle in a few older players… but mostly its youngsters out there, proving themselves on the big stage.
Excellent win. I hope Wenger puts a similar crew out there for the final.
Very happy for the likes of Aliadiere… Diaby… Denilson…. they stepped up in their chance… great to see.
Well done lads… thanks for making us smile and laugh at Spurz… and giving the club a chance for some silverware.
BRAVO.

Beautifully said.
Great attacking football by our very own Carling Darlings.
Here’s to the kids!!!!!!!
Here’s to AW sticking with the same type of lineup for the final in Wales, regardless of the opponent!!!!!!!
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

Heres a link to a commentary about our kiddie corps and their destruction of senior PL teams :http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,23530-2571905,00.html. Our kiddy squad may actually be a scarier team to face because they have something to prove. We all know that teams (other than Chelsea and Man U) don’t want to come out and ‘play’ football with us. Sp*rs needed to score 2 goals today. In 120′, Sp*rs took 7 shots, 2 on target and 1 goal. They were actually huddled in their box for long periods of time. They may as well have been Watford.
Well it’s just one game.
Now let’s get our act together for Middlesbrough.
It’s clear to me that Diaby and Denilson should now make the subs bench and Flamini should not. Denilson especially is so far superior to Flamini at this point that it’s a no-brainer. Aliadiere should also make the bench as well.
Instead of setting up shop in Viet Nam, we should be linking up with a Brazilian club. Denilson came to us through a ’special talent’ application. We need an easier way to get more Brazilian talent into our youth academy system. Like for example, an Alexandre Pato (17), the next “big thing” before he got that label (http://www.caughtoffside.com/pato-alexandre-club-world-cup-scouting.html).

From your Times On Line article: “Some punters at Tottenham last Wednesday paid 60 of your English quid to watch their massively paid heroes scrape a draw against a team that would struggle to get served in a pub.” Classic.
