Aliadiere needs to be in your forwards list. I think he's going to be a vital part of the team. Although the rumors of him being close to transfer were flying, injuries and other circumstances seem to be affording him a chance, which he has been capitalizing on.

Steve Sidwell… lol
/sigh
February 14th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
I would also move Baptista from midfield to forward on your list. He’s been much stronger as a striker and always seems a little lost in the midfield.
February 14th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
That collection of keepers isn’t worth a damn.
Need a #1 keeper.
Ribery and Sidwell?
Don’t see it happening.
But who knows… I wouldn’t mind either player in the squad.
If Wet Sham goes down… I can see Reo-Coker on the radar… and if Charlton go down… Bent might be interesting.
They both WANT to play for us!
February 14th, 2007 at 3:11 pm
so you honestly believe that Song and Muamba are good enough for arsenal???
February 14th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
As a #1 goalkeeper I would like to see Sebastien Frey.
The defence is fine but I would add Gareth Bale on the list, Wenger said he is pleased that Bale didn’t move in the window and he still has a chance to sign him.
In midfield we lack left sided midfielders, so my tips are Ribery and Pedersen. Move Baptista upfront.
The strikers are good and there is no room for another player, we are full there with Henry, Adebayor, RvP, Baptista and Bendtner(I expect Aliadiere to move in the summer). But I still think we should get Fernando Torres. If the trade with Real doesn’t work out and Baptista stays at Madrid, I say offer Reyes to Atletico Madrid(they were interested in the summer) + cash and we have a good chance of getting a very good young player with a lot of experience. He would be a great addition to our team.
So it would be something like this:
GK: Frey, Almunia, Poom
RB: Eboue, Hoyte/Gilbert
LB: Clichy, Bale/Traore
CB: Toure, Gallas, Djourou, Senderos
DM: Gilberto, Flamini, Denilson/Diaby
CM: Fabregas, Diaby/Denilson
RM: Hleb, Walcott
LM: Rosicky, Ribery/Pedersen
FW: Henry, Adebayor, RvP, Bendtner, Baptista/Torres
Great squad, you have to admit.
February 14th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
the boys look good tonite without HENRY and CESC!!!
You have to like what we’ve seen so far. No intimidation at all by Bolton. We are playing well… Denilson, Diaby, Clichy all impressive out there.
(so far)
Hleb and Rosicky and Gilberto adding the needed confidence.
Ade up top with Baptista for the finish!
Kolo holding things at the back.
so far… so damned good!
February 14th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Although I like Mad Jens I believe we have seen the best of him, although Buffon may be an option he would be a bit too “Galactico” for Wengers liking so he possibly will go for Arthur Boruc or my preference Craig Gordon. They Wenger may even stick with Almunia who has been being used alot by Wenger recently but that may depend on his performance in the Carling Cup final.
I dont think Wenger will sign Steve Sidwell who has publically made himself available too bigger clubs, unless he lets both Muamba(who Id like Wenger to keep hold of) & Song leave. An option to Ribery is Ryan Babel (who is more in the mold of Henry, super quick, confident & an inteligent finisher) and although just signed a new contract with Ajax, allegelly hes made sure a minimum buyout clause was included for if a big club comes in. Though Babel may initially struggle to adapt to the physical nature of the premiership whereas Ribery is more likely to fit right in. On the other hand Ribery has shown a lack of commitment to the Clubs he signs for, he has already been contracted to 4 different professional clubs so far in his brief career & is wanting to move from his current one.
Id definitly like to see Bendtner in the squad for next season though his opportunities maybe too limited for a young player needing too build up his experience.
We all know how shrud a business man Wenger is & with the debt of Emirates hanging over the clubs head I cant see Wenger having much money to play with, we may not even see Wenger delve into the transfer market at all and just bring a few loanies back to bolster the squad, though I think with Ljungberg being persistantly injured we need some more depth out wide.
February 14th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
Gilberto misses penalty and Adebayor misses an empty goal… we give up an injury time goal, and its off to extra time.
WTF!
Pathetic finishing. If you can’t get a penalty shot near the goal… and can’t hit an empty net, you deserve to lose.
February 14th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Arsenal are the biggest chokers I have ever seen. Without a doubt confirmed tonight. We were basically on our goal line when we could have cruised it if we just passed it around and went forward.
February 14th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
Its a good thing it didn’t get to penalties… because I am not sure we could even put a penalty on net tonite.
Should have been easy… we made it very difficult and still managed to win somehow.
February 14th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Why didn’t they lose then you **AYE CARUMBA**(censored)?
February 14th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
The most surreal game I have ever seen.
Baptista unfortunately may have ruined his Arsenal career tonight. Possibly the worst performance I have ever seen anyone produce in an Arsenal shirt.
Defeat would have sickened me.
Hleb was a genius tonight. I can’t believe he is out for another month again. He showed that he is vital to our play.
February 14th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
You’re such a crappy, lightweight supporter. In the first half Arsenal you’re licking arse at our tremendous display and in the second you’re ripping into the team and calling them pathetic. So which is it? Go and support another club you faithless little jerk.
Arsenal won because they deserved to win. They played the better football, they had the most chances. They were just given a hard time away from home by a team only 2pts behind us in the league. Sure we missed some sitters, big deal, just go ahead and rip into 8 goal Gilberto who played like a lion out of position in central defence.
We scored 3 times, when it mattered, against our bogey team - playing with kids like Djourou, Denilson and Diaby. The fought like dogs to win that game, especially when Rosicky and Hleb went off, both were fantastic. Adebayor is a f*cking legend, he works harder than any Arsenal striker I have ever seen, and scored 2 goals.
You really are the worst sort of supporter a team could ever have.
February 14th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
Agony. Sheer agony. I can hardly write. Two blown penalty kicks, a blown open goal shot, a blown five-on-one by la Bestia. Good grief. That Aliadiere — everybody writes him off, but he’s been outstanding during the Cup matches. And then looks like shite during the Premiership. Very odd. But we can thank him for this victory as much as anybody.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:00 pm
It wasn’t surreal, it was majestic entertainment.
I think Wenger has definitely decided to sign Baptista, otherwise he would have started with Aliadiere - not brought Aliadiere on after 90 minutes.
Baptista had a mixed game, but you have to give him more time, he has only started about 5 games for f*ck sake. He comes from Brazil to Bolton via Sevilla and Real Madrid, this sort of game is completely alien to him - he needs time to adapt like any other player. Why should Bergkamp, Henry etc. get 6 months, playing every week, to adapt and Baptista only 5 games?? I think he’s doing ok, not fantastic, but he will learn a lot from games like this - if he doesn’t learn then maybe you can point the finger.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
that was by far the MOST hilarious match i have ever watched! dear heaven!
3 clear misses by baptista, an open goal miss by adebayor and 2 horrid penalty misses. the third goal was just so surreal…
hilarious!
so we play an extra 30 bloody minutes just becos gilberto and adebayor cant do simple things. anyways, at least we are through, so we can relax.
i wonder which team will play against blackburn.
i dont want to see henry or fabregas or lehmann though. they should rest again.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
and just when i think hoyte has turned a corner one sees him being skinned time and time again. i just pray this clown is offloaded in the summer!
clichy was MASSIVE again today (apart from one instance when he tried to play out of trouble and conceded a stupid freekick).
Denilson is MASSIVE. nobody can possibly doubt his credentials now.
Rosicky and Hleb, what a combination! i hope hlebs injury wasnt bad!
Ljunberg was useless….however i dont mind the odd goal or two from him.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
Use your f*cking brain for christ sakes, some of the comments round here are so thick. Aliadiere’s performances are not odd at all, he plays well in the Carling Cup because he’s up against lower division sides or rookie defenders like the ones Liverpool put in. Either that or he’s up against fat old Campo who can’t physically run after 100 minutes, of course he’s going to take him apart - any fresh striker would. Then you compare those games to Premiership games, where he’s never done anything of note - it’s really not rocket science is it!?
February 14th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
Yeah, that world class goal he scored was useless.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
guys, i just cant wait for the day when we play our real first team - injury free, in form and very well rested.
Lehmann
Eboue, Toure, Gallas, Clichy
Hleb, Fabregas, Gilberto, Rosicky
Van Persie, Henry
Damn, on that day, i can imagine we?ll hit the unlucky sods we face 7 times without reply. cant wait.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
his performance was USELESS. the fact that a player scores doesnt automatically mean he had a good game.
or are you one of the foolish fans who believes that.
ljunberg is a HUGE drop down from the rosicky, hleb standards. i just hope he can at least reach 3 or 4 goals this season. maybe he can help in the cups.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
There’s no way Bale is going to come to Arsenal and sit on the bench. There’s no way we’re going to pay that much money for Fernando Torres. And there’s no way I would rather have Baptista than Aliadiere.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Ok, so he’s been out virtually all season, comes back in, scores a vital, world class goal and his performance is useless. I’m not saying Ljungberg is the future, cos he isn’t. But his performance tonight was far from useless - you lot are losing the plot tonight big time. Most of you really know f*ck all about football, all you care about is that Arsenal win, if they win you’re sucking dick, if they lose you’re tearing them apart. Every game, no matter how good or bad Arsenal are playing you predict, WIN, WIN, WIN. Then when they don’t you get all grumpy and start slagging them off. I really don’t think most of you are supporters at all, you;re all glory hunters. You have no patience, give players no credit, you have no understanding of the game itself whatsoever.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Fair point, and I do like him in the sense he always gets involved and is not afraid to go for stuff, but his first touch has been very suspect from the moment he joined. He deserves more time though.
You have to admit Aliadiere is an extremely impressive player now. His dribbling is a delight to behold.
Some of our football was unbelievable.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
so many people whining over a win?! I thought it was a fantasticly entertaining match! Sure we missed way to many chances and as always we looked shaky defending set pieces, but we scored 3 goals and beat a very good Bolton team today. on to the next round.
as far as next years team, we might be able to use one more defender and maybe a winger in addition to added depth in goal but i’m excited about this team. As far as who we buy/sell I’d like to see song gone and bring in??? I’ll leave that to AW. I haven’t seen enough from the other leagues to make a decent judgement.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Of course Baptista’s first touch is suspect, the game here is twice as fast as anything he’s every known - why can’t you realise things like that? Look at Shevchenko, give him all the time in the world and he’ll crucify you, in England he’s been a pile of garbage.
No, Alidaiare is not “extremely impressive”, sometimes I wonder if you have a brain between your ears. He came on after 90 minutes and rang rings round the fat, knackered, out of position Campo - open your eyes!
Yeah, some of the football in the first half was special - Hleb had his best game for Arsenal in that first 45, totally incredible dribbling and skills.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I was thinking that about Ljungberg the other day, how Hleb and Rosicky are a different league and stuff. Then I looked at what Ljungberg had done for us and thought again. His goal record is too good to belittle the loyal swede. They are different. Ljungberg couldn’t hope to have Hleb’s control but on the other hand Hleb couldn’t lace Freddie boots when it comes to goal scoring instinct.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:31 pm

They’re nearly all glory hunters. I watched a superbly entertaining game where the best team won. They should go and support gutless Tottenham and see how much fun that is.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
Wow, DannyT, you are in a foul mood tonight. No question, Ljunberg made an invaluable contribution tonight. And maybe you’re right about Baptista although I do think what Wenger saw tonight might give him pause before investing alot in Baptista. I didn’t think anyone was really slagging the team off except for the comment by Stag in the second half which you must admit was a bit infuriating from the perspective of an Arsenal supporter. Anyway, what struck me most tonight was how resilient and unbothered Arsenal seemed in response to Bolton’s play. This is the way to play at the Reebok.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:41 pm
I am in a good mood, just get fed up with these arseh*les talking sh*t all the time. It beggars belief how negative some of these so-called fans are.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Plenty of players come on as sub and do sweet F.A. Time to give the lad some credit, your vendetta against him is getting a bit weird. He was crap four years ago but it is patently obvious he has improved alot. I agree that he still has it all to do in terms of starting games doing the business.
What has pace of the game got to do with first touch? He was being moderately shadowed by a Bolton player and the ball just sprang from his foot. The Henry’s and Bergkamps weren’t mis-placing simple passes when they came, especially when they were not being pressurised.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
I don’t know how anybody can complain about tonight’s win. The team played really well. Yes, they missed some chances but they have been doing that all season. Now they have learned to keep going and the scores will come.
I was stunned to see Freddie score a goal from five years ago but if this time he is really over his injuries and can make runs into the box into scoring positions like that, keep it coming. Even if he can only do it late in the game against tiring teams, that gives him a place on the seven man bench for Champions League games.
Aliadiere continues to shine against lesser opposition and against tired teams. He is yet to do it for me in the bigger games. Start him on Saturday and in the Carling Cup final and if he lasts the ninety minutes in both and delivers match-winning performances he will be worth a place.
As for next season, either persuade Reyes to come back or sign another left-sided midfielder, sign a goalkeeper (Buffon, the Russian, Gordon, Boruc, whoever) to replace Jens, Torres or Etoo up front and that’s all we need. Keep all of the current squad except Aliadiere (unless see above). As for the loanees, bring back Gilbert to compete with Hoyte for reserve right-back. As for the others, Lupoli and Bendtner started the season well but for various reasons (including injury) are not consistently shining. Bendtner sounds a bit like a Pennant or Bentley, wanting his first-team place now when he may not yet be good enough. Muamba, Connollly and O’Cearuill should play in next season’s Carling Cup to see what they are made of.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I too saw a superbly entertaining game. I also saw an extraordinarily resilient Arsenal team dominate Bolton at the Reebok with verve and style while playing without Thierry Henry, William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas, and Emanuel Eboue. Having said all that, I must also say that Baptista’s performance stood out for me tonight for all the wrong reasons. That was because of his inability to convert in the box which is where I believe we all thought his strength lay. The penalty kick miss by Gilberto did not bother me all nor Abedayor’s hitting the goal post after fooling the Bolton goalkeeper whose last name defies my spelling abilities. I think we all hope that Baptista will turn out to be the elusive fox in the box that Arsenal has been missing and this game gave cause for second thought. The positives though on a night like this one, i.e., Diaby, Denilson, Hleb, Rosicky, Adebayor, Clichy, Freddie, Toure, etc. far outweigh that concern.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
Did anyone see Allardyce’s interview after the game? He moaned about hitting the post, Ben Haim getting sent off and having THREE players out injured!!!!!!!!
I thought Wenger has made up some stupid excuses over the years but it was the most one-eyed view of a game I have ever heard!
February 14th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
I don’t have a vendetta against Aliadiere, he tries hard and is a fairly decent player - all I have ever said is that he is not good enough to be an Arsenal regular, and Wenger obviously backs me on that because he’s tried to get rid of him 4 times.
What do you mean, what has the pace of the game got to do with it, it has everything to do with it. Have you ever played football? With the speed of the English game your first touch has to be good or you will lose possession of the ball, things brings a pressure that players are not used to - hence why the miscontrol it. That’s why they need time to adapt. Some can, some can’t - maybe Baptista won’t, I’m just saying you have to give him time, time that you seem willing to afford others and not him - I think his record of goals and assists so far in an Arsenal shirt has been pretty decent for someone who has only started 5 or 6 games.
Henry was pretty poor when he first joined, I think he had exactly the same problems as Baptista, as for Bergkamp, technically he was simply one of the best footballers to ever play the game, you can’t compare everyone by his standards.
February 14th, 2007 at 6:59 pm
Hmm, how on earth did Anelka not get sent off for bringing Adebayor down in the box? It has to be the worst refereeing decision of all time. There wasn’t even a goalkeeper, he was clean through and he was brought down - if that’s not a sending off then what is?
February 15th, 2007 at 12:11 am
Torres may be good in La Liga but he will have a tough time adapting to the EPL. Not worth the dough they are asking for. Also I predict Baptista will return to Spain this summer and Arsenal will be forced to sell Reyes on the cheap. We will need a left sided player like Ribery who links up well with Henry. I’ll keep Aliadere and sell Bendtner. Ali is more versatile as he can play upfront and on the wings. Traore is not ready as first backup to Clichy and Bale is too expensive. Left back is a tough position to fill. Unless Hoyte improves, I will make Djourou 1st backup to Eboue besides backing up for central defence.

its amazing how many times u come on here and say that others dont know anything about football….but YOU know it all. u are a d-ckhead!
u say so-called fans are tearing the team apart when we lose and praise to high heaven when we win. guess what we WON today and i am just saying ljungberg didnt have a good game. watch the hightlights again u stupid man.
and no, the fact u play pub football doesnt mean u know f-all about football.

its amazing how many times u come on here and say that others dont know anything about football….but YOU know it all. u are a d-ckhead! its also amazing how many times u actually insult other people on this website. u can give a strong and robust argument without using directing foul language in a pompous manner - as if YOU know it all. because you dont **AYE CARUMBA**(censored)!
u say so-called fans are tearing the team apart when we lose and praise to high heaven when we win. guess what we WON today and i was saying ljungberg didnt have a good game my comments are up there, u can read right? but ofcourse you will lash on to that and say i was lashing the team. if you can read comments fully then please shut up.
and no, the fact u play pub football or championship manager doesnt mean u know f-all about football.
February 15th, 2007 at 9:59 am
i dont think ljunberg, aliadiere and muamba should have a place in our team next season. they should be moved on.
February 15th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Everyone thinks they’re right at the end of the day, don’t you? My chances of changing Stag’s dumb opinions are probably zero, but I will say what I have to say regardless, and so will he no doubt.
If I accidentally insult someone on here I apologise, but I don’t expect that anyone takes any real offence, after all I don’t when I’m attacked. Football’s not really that important.
February 17th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
You can’t make a comment on anyone else’s comment, without insulting them, can you Danny– what a bitter person you must be to be around– I can’t imagine wanting to watch a game at a pub with a knowitall (and often deadwrong) curmudgeon like you.
