This could make securing 4th place a bit harder…
from Arsenal.com
Thierry Henry will not play for Arsenal again this season.
The French striker damaged groin and stomach muscles in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven and, as a consequence, will miss the next three months of domestic and international football. Arsenal hope to have him back to full fitness for the start of the 2007-08 campaign.
Thierry Henry will be out for a minimum of three months,’ said Arsene Wenger on Friday afternoon. ‘Unfortunately this means he will now miss the rest of this season both domestically and internationally, but we are confident that he will be ready for the start of next season.’”

Not surprising at all. I just hope he is fit and ready next season.
I have already stated that 4th place cannot be taken for granted. Ade has got an extra game suspension. For the Villa and Everton away games, we have to rely on Bap + Ali to score.
March 9th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
It was foolish of Wenger to risk him agaisnt PSV. Now this…
Right. ali + baps will have the rest of the season to prove their case to remain at Arsenal.
Lauren was sold after returning from a lenthgy injury, and never was quite the same. I wonder how Henry would fare this time. He's turning 30 this summer, can we expect him to be the same? Or would Wenger consider selling him if an offer came along with some crazy cash?
This remains to be seen!

What if he’d scored? What options did AW have? If he hadnt played him and we still lost what would you have said? I gurantee you’d have said .. Damn..AW should have taken a chance and gone for it with Titi..now the season is gone. Its hard for AW to take these calls..yes thats why he’s paid..but I’m not sure Ali or Theo were gonna score at all instead of Titi.
Let Titi rest…for a good 6 months.
March 9th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
We would still have lost if TiTi was left on the bench, I’m sure of it. As a team we didn’t play well, and it’s not anyone’s fault.
All i’m saying is that Titi should have stayed on the bench so that he didn’t have to risk injury, which he did now.
Wenger has even less option now wouldn’t you say?
March 9th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
Don’t really see how we could sell our Captain (AGAIN) and our ONLY PROVEN SCORER.
If he rests… heals… doesn’t play all Summer … he will be back to his old self…
he’s almost 30… not 40.
March 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
The CL was our last chance for silverware this season. The most important silverware no less. To not play TH14 if the Dr. says he can go would be stupid.
He is Arsenals BEST player, he had a foot problem. He was injured against PSV with a stomach and groin issue not a reocurrance of the foot deal. I have questioned AW here a few times but to me this decision was a no-brainer and AW got it right.
March 9th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
Oh man. Henry is out, plus Ade gets one additional game suspension. Argh.
But the F.A are amazing really. Ade gets a total of 4 games ban for what? I wonder why they stopped at 4 games? If Arsenal were competing for the title, then I am sure Ferguson would have called this 4 game ban too lenient. He might have wanted a full season ban.
Rooney used to get away week after week of swearing at the refs yet he was never banned. Ade reacts to a stupid decision and he is sent.
So here’s the basic formula to avoid F.A punishments:
If you are Rooney or Lampard, you can do anything..
else if you are an Arsenal player, then keep your mouth shut no matter what decision goes against you.
Anyway…just hope the team is well rested and can get the necessary points to finish 3rd. One point behind Liverpool with 2 games in hand, plus a massive game at Anfield at the end of the month

There is absolutely NO bias against the Arsenal at all.
That type of thought is ridiculous. The Arsenal are not treated more harshly on or off the pitch at all.

March 9th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
I don’t think it’s so much a bias against Arsenal (although Rooney does get ALOT more leeway than most players, what with abusing the refs - that’s supposed to be an offense), but more that the FA is so maddening in the way it goes about things and backs refs no matter how inane the decision and really refuses to review anything. I suppose they assume that if they back down once then everyone will challenge every decision, but that seems a bit far fetched.
March 9th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
The reality is that Henry has been carrying injuries the entire season. If it wasn’t this week, it probably would have been next week. Even if Wenger didn’t play him until he was fully healed it probasbly would have cost him the rest of the season anyway. The plus to this is that it’s official - Arsenal will have to soldier on without him and they’ve done a pretty decent job of it so far - and Henry will finally get the rest that his body is begging for. Of course, without Ade (at least for the short term) and RvP I have no ideas where the goals are going to come from.
March 9th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
Perfectomundo, there is always some flak no matter what decision AW makes, stay, go, come, leave, grrrrrrr….Every Arsenal fan, old or young has to come to the fact that TH-14 is not the TH-14 of ‘01-’02, ‘03-’04 etc…he has taken alot of wear and tear by alot of back line hacks over the years, and now they’re catching up too him! He will never leave the Arsenal nor will AW let him go; he will turn into our next Bergkamp, 35 yrs old & coming off the bench late in the matches to give us 10-20 minutes of magic, thats his future w/ the Arsenal; and I dont know about you, but I’ll take that for sure!!! Rest him, we will be ok, we will qualify for the CL next season, remember I, ME said it here on March 9th, 2007 @ 10:26pm est. I agree it’s time for der Beast to make good, and also for Aliadiere, I also believe we will see Theo up front with either of the two in some matches, it’s smart. I want to say one more thing; I have been pounding alot of Arsenal websites since the PSV match, and there is alot of doubters out there, I’m sick of this sh*&….You are either an Arsenal fan or not, you love’em when they win, and you love them when they dont. I’m not saying this about any of you on here, being a transplanted London resident and I’m now a full citizen of this GREAT country this is by far the most grounded Arse site out there, keep the faith and UP THE ARSENAL!!!

the sentence after the ellipsis were about the wisest words i’ve read on this website in the last few weeks, along with aogfc a couple of days ago.
it amazes me how many knee-jerk reactionaries populate this place.
anything less than total, clinical, dominant football and the criticisms come flying from all angles. sell him, get rid of him, wenger’s lost the plot, hleb sucks, baptista sucks, ade’s first touch sucks blah blah blah blah blah.
in an ideal world every first touch is perfect, every pass crisp and true, each shot is on target, and no one has an off day. that shangri-la does not exist. for sadly, yes, weather, pitch conditions, playing with niggling injuries, changing lineups due to aforementioned injuries, and the fact that we’re actually playing against another team that is trying to stop us can truly have an affect on how the team performs. no, really.
last year people pissed and moaned that we couldn’t win the ugly games anymore. but we win ugly against watford and wigan and what do you lot do? piss and moan.
last few years lots of flak about not being able to beat manure. two out of two and both of them late victories full of strength, character, and desire. no henry in the first game either, and down a goal in the second. no luck needed. class on display.
bolton, our bogey team. play them off the park at crappy-shoe stadium, though we did make it hard on ourselves. kids are really starting to shine. who says we can’t play with a physical team?
though ultimately losing the carling cup final, we thoroughly embarrass the over-priced shitzky’s with an excellent display of speed, skill, passing, movement, intelligence and adolescence. youth is served, and to chelsea it tastes a bit like humble pie. they take comfort in winning with a full-strength side in the 2nd team cup. burp.
disappointed that we won’t win a trophy this season. make no mistake.
but i will take much comfort, satisfaction, and pride in the hurdles we overcame and the foundation that is being built to the horror of all opposing clubs. there is not another team in europe, certainly not in england, that boasts the young talent we have in our system. which club with a virtual youth team could have played with chelsea, outplayed them as we did, that day? (rhetorical question)
barring another injury-plagued season (we haven’t once played our presumed first eleven this season), we are on the cusp of great things. it might start next season. but it certainly could last a while. we may not win it all every year, but we will be very good. you all can see it.
of course there are many variables. of course. what, you think i’m stupid and naive? (rhetorical again…)
but you don’t have to look that hard to find something to soften the blow of this season. hell, many of you wrote us off after that poor early start, so surely you must have psychologically prepared yourselves for this inevitability. no? stag?
love ‘em when they win, love ‘em when they lose. (or tie, or contrive to give up early goals at home, or have a bad first touch on occasion, or put someone at right back who isn’t a right back…twice)
some of you can’t see the forest for the trees, but the future is almost now and it is bright. so keep your chins up gooners. find your mojo and for chrissakes take a fricken happy pill already.
oh, and andez, where have you gone…? scotty…? kelvin…? miranda…? coach mcguirk…?
March 10th, 2007 at 4:39 am
Looking forward to the next two games, Toure is out for Villa and Ade until Everton.
I don’t mind playing 4-4-2 at Villa with Bap + Ali. But if they fail, I would like to see a 4-5-1 against Everton with a midfield of Rosicky, Gilberto, Cesc, Diaby and Hleb/Ljunberg/Walcott.

Nice article on Soccernet on Henry.
March 10th, 2007 at 10:57 am
Very good article.
Says it all about Henry’s season.
Folks on here rip the man… saying he’s lost it or past it…
in reality, he’s been injured and fatigued ALL YEAR… and he’s sucked it and
tried to play thru it.
12 goals in 24 games is pretty damned good.
He’s part of the future of Arsenal, a BIG part.
I wouldn’t swap Henry for ANYONE.
March 10th, 2007 at 11:51 am
Yeah a nice article. I thought about an Eto’O swap …it seemed good for an hour or so. After that hour or so I realized I was absolutely nuts for even thinking on those lines…he’s irreplaceable.
Here’s wishing Titi all the very best…GET WELL SOON…before next August.
March 10th, 2007 at 11:58 am
Thnx … that felt so good….that was one of the best posts I’ve read. Was sick of all the rubbish all over the Internet and sick of Myles Palmer’s ..I told you so….Thnx a bunch…again..
March 10th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
I for one did rip him. He did score 10 goals in an injury hampered season. My problem and Arsenal’s problem is this: A half-fit Henry continue to play as the focus of the attack and that I think led to the sputtering offense (ie. trying to force feed passes to Henry). That combined with our lack of MF offense has been part of Arsenal’s problem. The other part of course has been our set piece defense. No wonder Wenger ‘had’ to shut him down over the winter, for his sake as well as the team’s. Two weeks ago when it was announced that he had a foot injury, I called for Henry to be shut down again. Did Wenger ‘listen’? Now Henry is like a broken down boxer, with a litany of injuries-back, sciatic nerve compression, foot, groin, abdominal wall. At 30, we hope he can come back, but you just never know. We need a striker insurance policy for next season. Some have mentioned Eto’o. I don’t want him because he praised Arsenal (ie. make me an offer type noises) to the press when his Barcelona situation was media fodder. I don’t want any player who campaigns to come to Arsenal. I ‘d prefer we consider Sevilla’s……..Kerzhakov (formerly of Zenit, 25 yo))-quick, nice skill, and strong. I don’t know about his ability in the air. He cost Sevilla 15 mil eur. He could be the next Shevchenko.
March 11th, 2007 at 1:10 am
No matter how fit Henry returns and how well RvP does, we need another goal scoring option because our midfield does not score goals.
This season, our midfield has scored 14 in the league and 7 in the CL. Of the 14, Gilberto has 8 and Flamini 3. Ljunberg, Cesc and Walcott are on 0. Not good enough.
March 11th, 2007 at 1:11 am
At the end of the day, my loyalty is to the Arsenal, and Arsenal only. Arsenal is a business first, then football club later. Especially when you think about the debt AFC is in, success on the pitch is vital.
As for Titi, he’s done amazing things for Arsenal, and I will always remember his contribution for the club. However, we have to look ahead, and brace ourselves for the inevitable - the day when we Titi plays a supporting role for the new wave of players to assume the lead role. It is not his fault, but rather his passion for the club, that he had played on despite nagging injuries at the back of his head. Neither is he at fault at Wenger for relying on him as the talisman even when only half fit, but it does seem Titi’s struggles this season has been equated with that of the club.
Looking at Arsenal, you have to wonder if it’s the System that’s in place or the individual star players at the club that has brought us success during the Wenger era. Arsenal has won honours before Titi’s arrival, and there is no reason to believe that we won’t after he’s gone, or for that matter, when Wenger leaves.
March 11th, 2007 at 9:38 am
There is no player worth his salt… that would sit on the sidelines and watch, and not try to come back and play, even if they are dinged up.
Henry wanted to play and contribute to the team he LOVES.
Its on Wenger and the trainers that he played hurt all season long. They can simply say NO, you are not cleared to play.
But Wenger realizes that without Henry, we are not the same team. No team that loses their BEST PLAYER is the same team.
Yes… I agree, we need another proven striker. But I doubt Wenger will go for one. He’ll go with Henry, RVP, Adebayor and I bet he gives Bendtner a shot.
I very much like Amauri of Palermo. (who is also currently injured)… but this guy was lighting it up for Palermo, and is a bit under the radar screen.
Bergy was magnficent well into his 30’s… Henry isn’t 30 yet. I wouldn’t write the best striker Arsenal have ever had off… not quite yet. Why can’t a player have one off season?
I can think of many players in many sports who have off years for various reasons… it doesn’t mean their career is over or on the down-side.
That’s why many sports have the “Comeback Player of the Year”.
One season… injuried all season… hardly means its time to sell Henry.
Let’s give Gilberto the captain’s band… and let Henry heal all Summer… he can come back rested and relaxed and be right back to the top of his game.

The Club… is made up of players.
Its NOT just about the laundry. Its not simply the shirt that they wear. Do you simply support the kits?
Would you be happy and supportive if we fielded Emre, Lee Bowyer, DiCanio…?
We’ve had more than a few complaints about Eboue and his “antics” on the pitch.
Essentially, many supporters love the team for the PLAYERS, style of play, Wenger’s philosophy, and being purveyors of the beautiful game.
While I will always support the team first, it is not just about the team. Its about the players on the team as well.
The club will go on without “whomever”… yes, thats a wonderful comment, but it means nothing. Every club will go on without whatever player.
The club have debt… so why not sell the best players and clear the debt?
We could sell Henry, Cesc, RVP, Gallas, Toure… and make a big dent in the debt.
We would win feck all… but its about the club, right?
Its about WINNING… and in Arsenal’s case, playing the Wenger way.
March 11th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Jason Culina, an Australian at PSV Eindhoven, observed: ?I watch Arsenal every week on TV and having played them I think they could be the best team in the world in the coming years.?
We’ll see if he is right.
March 11th, 2007 at 10:46 pm
I dont think Arsenal will do well without their main 3 strikers. I cant see Ali or the beast getting us the winning points. I want Arsenal to secure the 3rd place from now and not let us scared till the last second. Keep being undefeated in the Emirates …
Whats with all the injuries Arsenal has???? Why does it always happen to us.
March 12th, 2007 at 1:12 am
It is not inconceivable that we fail to win our next 3 games away to Villa, Everton and Liverpool. For the Villa game, we are missing Toure and Ade (and maybe Rosicky) and they have Carew.
It’s all about scoring goals. We need Ali or Bap or anyone else to step up.
March 12th, 2007 at 8:50 am
I don’t like any of Emre (racist), Bowyer (cheat), or DiCanio (facist) at a personal level, but I would support any player in an Arsenal shirt that conducts themselve professionally on the pitch, and gets the job done (help win us games).
On the same note, Eboue’s antics gets onto my nerves. I would rather lose with grace than win and knowing that we got away with cheating. While that sorta stuff seems okay with manu and chelsea folks, not me. Winning isn’t everything, but we need to do it with integrity. If the ref got it wrong and we benefit, sobeit as these things even themselves up over time, but con the ref like Eboue often tries to?
So playing to your point, yes, i don’t simply support the club kit but also the players that represent the club. I don’t really have any attachment to any one player at the club, as the only concern I have is wether the current group gel together as a team to play well. Our quality squad has lost games this season to a well organized, determined opponent with shite players, but cohesive unit as a whole that is difficult to break down.
If Henry was in his mid twenties, fine, he’s got years ahead of him to recover from injuries and there is a HIGH probability that he’ll be back. At 30 those odds are not so good. It’s not about the club having to clear their debt at all cost, but it’s also about not being too sentimenal with players. If it’s the right time to sell, we should.

get better Thierry
what he’s accomplished for this team, even unfit, is more than most with 12 goals in 24 games.
i’m going to miss him but want him back 100%
we need more from other players now
