Arsene Wenger admitted to Arsenal.com yesterday that Robin van Persie will most likely miss the remainder of the season as a result of the foot injury he suffered while scoring the equalizing goal against Man U at The Grove back in January.
“The end of April now looks optimistic,” the manager told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday. “It is likely he will be out for the season.
“We have spoken to the doctors and they told us that the longer you keep this kind of fracture without playing the less chance you have of a recurrence. So if he can play only one or two games then we will not take a gamble.”
I can’t say I’m all that surprised, but I am disappointed. Van Persie’s nose for goal is sorely missed, and while it may have only been the matches against Chelsea and Pompey, those 6 points could make all the difference between finishing 2nd or 4th.

Why would anyone want VanPersie to come back?
What the hell would the rush be? There is no positive to him coming back this season… he could get re-injured in a meaningless match.
REST. RVP… take a nice long Summer break… come back with all guns blazing.
This is a POSITIVE development in my eyes.

The question has to be asked about our medical staff. As much as I have faith in Gary Lewin, who has been our 1st team phyisio for near on 20 years now, there is no doubt we have suffered more injures in the past 2 years than we ever have before. Who can forget how we managed to get to the Champions League final last season with teams made up of players playing out of position.
In the last couple of years their have been long term injuries to Thierry Henry, Robin Van Persie, Gilberto, Gael Clichy, Lauren, Fredrik Ljungberg, Sold Campbell, Ashley Cole, Jeremie Aliadiere & William Gallas to name but a few.
The question is, why?
Who or what is to blame for all these long term injuries?
Before anyone comes back with its burn out because of the amount of games they play, I will not accept that as all the best players in the world play the same amount of games.

Well, you are going to have to accept it as the reason for SOME of the injury issues… because thats FACT.
You can’t play all the way thru the CL FINAL and then right into the World Cup… and then right into the next season with a few weeks off.
We have a lot of pulls and groin injurys and it takes longer than “normal” for many of these injuries to be sorted out… I’ll question that…
but FATIGUE is a HUGE factor for many of our international players.

Stag, the World Cup and the CL final was the last year, and maybe that’s a factor for this years injuries, but don’t forget that we also had injuries last year and the previous year we were out of the CL early and there was no World or European Cup, so you can’t say that is the main reason.

So why have Man.U and Chelski not been ravaged with as many long term injuries as us

the idea that the medical staff is responsible for our injuries is ridiculous.
ok, they may have effed up diagnosing gallas, but how did they have anything to do with rvp’s foot injury, or theo’s shoulder, or diaby’s ankle?
the fact is injuries are a part of the game. we’ve had luck on our side during the last double, and the undefeated season with minimal injuries.
but questioning the medical staff for this year and last?!
please get off the blame game.

Probably the same reason 10-15 other teams in the Prem haven't been banged up as badly as the Gunners:? luck.? It runs like that sometimes.

Exactly. If anything Chelsea can complain about having an injury ravaged season - Cech, Cudicini, Terry, Cole, Cole, Bridge, Boozecruise, Robben. A lot of championship winning teams tend to have gone through that season without major injury problems.

Gallas mentioned that his injury could have taken less time… so we lost him for few games that we could have got more points from if he was available. Why our injuries takes more time than other teams. Why when RVP gets injured he has to sit out the whole season? J Terry gets injured and he is back the next game. Eboue gets a hit on his ankle and all of a sudden he is out for at least 6-8 weeks.
I am just sick of being worried about injuries of our players. Ali got injured and never came back.
I dont see why RVP cant be back … Henry too. Thats their job, and they have to be back.
I doubt it even if Arsenal has 44 star players, that we will even start 11 starters at once. I never recall Arsenal having all their player fully fit. Last year and this year, Arsenal has been a victim of injuries. We can say luck about last year, but it seems that things are repeated. Other teams like Chelsea and Man U play as much games, and their players are involved in International games … same for livepool. Their injury list is half of ours and their absents time is way less that ours … why ??????
I dont blame a doctor, I dont blame Arsene, I am just opening a debate to see why ?

During the unbeaten season, the defensive back four were available for almost the entire season. So was Vieira and Wenger had the luxury of alternating between Gilberto and Edu in central midfield. Up front Henry was ever present. With the spine of the team in place week in week out, it is not surprising the winning consistency was there.
So u ask why? I think it is just bad luck. When the team is winning, things like injury and form are less of an issue and they do not surface in the discussions.
On a side note, did anyone realised we have not won anything since the departure of Vieira? Draw your own conclusions then.

Yeah, well when we have an UNLIMITED BUDGET … like Chelsea, maybe we can continue to field ALL-STAR teams…

There’s not a lot you can do about these injuries, during the 49 unbeaten run we hardly had any - just a couple. Are you telling me that between now and then they’ve changed the regime and everyone’s started getting injured? I doubt it.
What concerns me more is the players’ attitude. The one thing I envy about other clubs is the amount of effort they put in, they go from box to box to box and work like demons. Chelsea do it. Arsenal don’t. Half the players can’t even be arsed to get into the box on the end of a cross. I don’t know if it’s tactical or a lazy mindset, but if these team wants to win anything it’s going to have start mixing graft with their undoubted talent. I’ve only seen it once this season, against Bolton away in the cup, where the players went into that game determined not to be outmuscled. They should be putting that sort of effort into every game, but I think too many players are believing this beautiful football hype - and lately it’s been just that - hype. They think they can pass teams to death and don’t need to put the effort in, despite the results they’re still doing it. How many of them really care? For example, I look at someone like Hleb and really wonder if he gives a sh*t sometimes.
This season there’s been too much paper talk, we have to do this that and the other, and it’s been all mouth and no trousers. I know the team is injury ravaged and young, but I still think they should work harder when they’re on the pitch.
