  1. Sheed Says:

I like it, it’s very classy. Way better than the yellow.

  2. Andez Says:

I also love this year’s design, always love the stripe sox! btw i find this ad design kinda funny, Gilberto.. a footballer.. in his full match day kit.. reading newspaper?!

  3. ryecatcher773 Says:

Well, so long as its the sport section, yeah? Looks like Cesc is too. Must have had the people who do the CK ads do the shoot. :-D

(The Arsenal online store is currently overloaded with people logged in buying it BTW).

  4. Aaron2236 Says:

I couldnt find this wallpaper on the Arsenal site. All I could find is the one where they are sitting on the bench. I want to set this on my computer so the office can look on in envy. Where can I find it?

  5. opedoye Says:

Hello there,I’m new to this.Just moved to the US.Glad to find arsenal supporters here too.
Concerning the new jersey,I don’t really like it cuz It makes one look like the filthy spurs.I hope this will bring us more success.Peace

  6. Mr Zog Says:

If you are looking for the full shot — click here

  7. joshuad Says:

Andez, you and I couldn’t be more in disagreement. I love that redcurrant and absolutely hate those socks. One stripe around the sock would be good enough. Three is a bit much.

  8. DC-Gooner Says:

DAMMIT! I just got the yellow one! what the $#@! Seriously it looks ok, even the sock aren’t so bad, but its a little too retro.

  9. SCJonathan Says:

    I like the Red Current.

Good to see the entire shot, thanks Mr Zog. I was reading about the upcoming tournament at the Emirates(Arsenal, PSG, Inter, Valencia), and in the sidebar they had a cut out of just Henry from the above picture to advertise the new kit. Now, just looking at Henry without anyone else, he just looks bored and annoyed and with all the talk of him leaving it did not leave me with a good feeling.

Taken in context, it is a little better

  10. Chris Stagliola Says:

    Looks good to me.
I liked the Red Currant and I like this one too, the socks are so bad that they are cool. Its hip to be square.

  11. fstanin Says:

I like the kit. Very classy, even the stockings. Lot’s of bloggers hate it because it is white akin to Sp*rs. Whatever…

  12. greg Says:

Rosicky looks like he’s `borrowing’ that bag! And Djourou is weighing up a `transfer you don’t need?’ line (sorry, just a Chicago flashback…)

  13. nipuna Says:

The desgin looks good, but what do we wear against Liverpool and Real Madrid? A third kit? I would have preferred a different color. Maybe redcurrant shorts + yellow jersey.

On a lighter note, it looks like everyone is waiting to catch the train out of Arsenal. :-)

  14. ryecatcher773 Says:

Liverpool wears red at Anfield, and Arsenal play Real so infrequently that it won’t be an issue. If they do meet in the next few seasons, and the Gunners are away, my guess is that they’d probably just wear the red shirt. There’s always exceptions — like when Hamburg and Arsenal played last season — with both teams being sponsored by Emirates, Arsenal wore those special away shirts with “Dubai” printed on the front instead…

  15. nipuna Says:

Ryecatcher773, I think you get my point. What do we wear against teams that are all red and all white? Doesn’t redcurrant clash with red? Villa and West Ham don’t wear their red-like shirts at the Emirates or Anfield or OT.

  16. nipuna Says:

Interesting article at Online Gooner about how ManU afford big signings.

  17. timmy_the_tooth Says:

    i like the yellow kits

not a fan of the white

    but i’ll get over it.

  18. nipuna Says:

    Off Topic:

Is the Arsenal captain position under Wenger cursed?

First, it was Vieira to Real rumors. Finally, he was sold for half the price to Juve.
Now, it is Henry to Barca rumors. IF he is sold now, it will be for much less than last year.

  19. SachinG Says:

Actually it is strange how little harmless things can become a talking point. 2 years ago, an Arsenal contest ran a campaign and removed the middle player from the team line-up and left that position blank, indicating that position could be filled by the Arsenal fan who won the contest. The person whose picture was taken out was PV and a few weeks later PV was gone.

As per Arseblog.com, this was the original picture posted on Arsenal.com yesterday:
    http://arseblog.com/away07.jpg

Expand the picture and look at the ‘way out’ sign above Henry’s head. This sign is taken out on the new picture on Arsenal.com and even the one posted on this website.

Ofcourse, it means nothing as this sign is present in all train stations. But you can imagine that someone must have pointed this out for Arsenal.com to have changed this. These are harmless little things but in the right hands, it makes for a conspiracy or a rumour.

  20. ryecatcher773 Says:

Did they remove the sign above Rosicky’s head too?

To respond to nipuna… I don’t think Wenger is cursed at all.

Vieria is one of the top midfielders in Europe, and was playing on one of the highest profile teams in the world. Barca, Milan, Real and (at that time) Juventus seemed to be linked to every transfer rumor. Henry is no different. It’s not the captaincy, its the quality of the man. Wenger is anything but cursed.

  21. Fred Says:

correction: Vieira WAS one of the top midfielders in Europe.

  22. ryecatcher773 Says:

Whatever. At the time Arsenal sold him, he was and that was my point… and I’d still take him back in a heartbeat. At 31 years, Vieira is still a great player, he still has what Arsenal needs, and he is more of a leader than anyone else on the squad has been since his departure.

  23. live_dont_exist Says:

Really couldn’t care less about the kit as long as we win all 4 titles ;) .. I didn’t like the yellow or the Maroon. I only liked the home kit last season..red and white. This one is ok ok though…

As for Paddy…rye..just get over it IMO…. Paddy was a great player.. he didn’t want to play any longer for AFC…remember his last season….anyway I think Diaby will eventually fill his boots albeit in a different way….

  24. teabag Says:

    Are you all mad?

We are yellow & blue for away.

    NEVER WHITE!!

  25. Chris Stagliola Says:

PV4’s last kick at the club = our last trophy
I saw some good play from him this season at Inter…
He won a trophy this year too.
    How’d we do?

  26. go4erhockey Says:

What ever color helps them hoist a few trophies is ok with me!

  27. Sheed Says:

Hey, I just saw that we are preparing third kit, and if it’s true, I must say it would be the best kit ever, even better than the red, but it’s probably just some joke.

    Here is the link: http://arseblog.com/columns/2007/06/13/another-away-kit/

  28. tAi Says:

    Third Kit….BARCA…..

  29. ryecatcher773 Says:

What, has Lacoste ousted Nike as the shirt sponsor? Looks like Celtic and Milan collided! If it is an actuality (and not a hoax), I must say that I’m a big fan of it. The change to a white away is revolutionary enough for one season.

  30. SachinG Says:

New Fixtures are out. One fixture does not surprize me:

Sat, Dec 15: Arsenal vs Chelsea.

I believe this is the 4th year that we play Chelsea around around the same time-frame in December (Dec 10, 17th, Dec 10th for the previous 3 years).

In 2008, it might be the reverse fixture on Sat, Dec 13th.

  31. Galaxy_Gooner Says:

I can’t believe some of the comments coming from people on this site!!!! This away kit resembles the N.17 scum from down the other end of the Seven Sisters Road.
To hear Arsenal fans say they are going to buy this monstrosity just shows what lack of knowledge they have of the game!!!!
This is like asking the Red Sox to wear Yankee pinstripes!!!!!!
This is like asking the Lakers to wear Celtics uniform!!!!!!
This is like asking the Cowboys to wear Redskins gear!!!!!

I for one will NEVER purchase anything white that has the Arsenal logo on it!!!!!

I’D RATHER SEE US WEAR THE WIMBLEDON BALL BOY KIT WE WORE IN 82/83 OR THE ROADKILL KIT OF THE EARLY 90′S THAN THIS CRAP WE’LL BE WEARING AT OLD TRAFFORD AND ANFIELD NEXT SEASON!!!!

What next???? Do we hear the P.A system at Emirates playing NICE ONE CYRIL when the team comes out for the kick-off!!!!!!!!

Why doesn’t Hill-Wood go all the way and put a cockerel over the cannon on the club crest!!!!!!!

  32. Seattlegooner Says:

GG - it is my understanding that there were so many pre-orders for the new away kit that Arsenal’s web site couldn’t handle it, so evidently most fans don’t really care or will buy whatever is put in front of them that has the crest on it.

As an American, I really don’t feel too much of a rivalry with the hated Spurs. Yeah, I understand they are big rivals and all, but I didn’t grow up with it. Besides, they really haven’t been much of a rival in the 10+ years I’ve been following the team. I would say Man U has been a much bigger rivalry recently, and we wear the same colors they do too. That being said, I prefer the yellow to the white but the club (and Nike) needs to generate cash, right?

  33. ryecatcher773 Says:

Bit dramatic, don’t you think there GG? It’s white. It looks nothing like the Spurs home shirt.

Actually, for the sake of argument, your comparison’s aren’t quite analogous.

Spurs and Arsenal are pretty much a local derby, not a rivalry on par with what you’ve illustrated. Here’s what I mean:

The Red Sox and Yankees are one of the biggest sporting rivalries in the world. Besides the storied history and huge following of both clubs, Boston and NYC are rival cities dating back to the Colonial era. Spurs and Arsenal play in Greater London and outside the UK, there isn’t much to be said of the rivalry. A More comparable football comparison analogous to Boston and New York would be to Glasgow’s Old Firm than the North London Derby. And I say this because although that is a local derby, Rangers and Celtic are usually at the top of the table, as the Bombers and Sox are in their divison. The most recent battle Arsenal had with spurs was for the 4th spot (and how distant from the top it was) at the end of 2005-06.

The Lakers and Celtics are on opposite sides of the country and are rivals due to their meeting ten times in the NBA finals, and both teams between them having 30 titles. Arsenal and Spurs are rarely in competition with each other for anything but bragging rights (see above).

The Cowboys and Redskins? Another incomparable rivalry based on historical quality, results and quantity of meetings due to those factors, as well as being divisional opponents, not locality… and both teams have white away jerseys.

Look, I understand what you are trying to say, but It’s not worth even getting worked up over. It isn’t as though the Gunners are wearing white as their home kit. Not to mention that Everton, Villa, Liverpool and Pompey all have white away shirts, and Sunderland, Fulham (who are almost the same distance as Spurs are BTW), Bolton and Derby all have white home shirts. As of the 2007-08 season, exactly half the EPL has a white shirt to choose from.

If you don’t like the shirt, don’t buy it. There are hoards of casuals (the lads most famous for shedding blood over football rivalries) who wouldn’t be caught dead in ANY of their respective team’s shirts. If you are that fanatical, then whats your point? Just take your money and go buy a cracking Mille Miglia jacket and a pair of Trimm Trabbs instead.

  34. Andez Says:

Galaxy, if I remember it right, I think Arsenal HAD WORE WHITE before. Those long long time ago back in the black and white film years.

if u don’t like the colour of white, fair enough. but is that really a need to accuse fellow site members here on “lack of knowledge” towards the game?

  35. Sheed Says:

How can I post a story? I wrote everything and clicked Save, but I don’t know if I sent the post, coz all I see is that my post is saved in drafts. Can someone tell me how to do that?

  36. Chris Stagliola Says:

Sheed, I asked the same thing… but I think you did it properly.
    Its a bit strange, innit?

  37. Sheed Says:

    Thanks Stag

  38. DC-Gooner Says:

Not to keep the fashion police thing going, but at least we chose a solid color as oppose to Chelsea who have elected to promote safe “CAUTIOUS” driving with their new kit, it seems so bright its practically blinding. If anyone goes to Chelsea v. Arsenal at the emirates, and its a day game, wear your sunglasses.

  39. Sheed Says:

Check this out. After the Barca colours, I’ve now found our kit in Inter colours.

    Go to: http://www.gunnerblog.com/images/arsenalthird07.jpg

  40. live_dont_exist Says:

Sheed: It’ll stay in drafts. I think there’s something/somebody who has admin rights on the box which checks drafts periodically and if there’s something unread there it pulls it out…it gets moderated and if all is cool it gets posted. I remember deleting posts and readding but it kept going into Drafts..then I realised that thats the way it works ;)…

  41. neova Says:

That “Inter” shirt was from last season, when everyone speculated what the 2006/7 away shirt was going to be…

  42. Sheed Says:

Reyes came on as a sub for Real Madrid today and with two goals he won them a title… maybe a permanent deal too :))))))))))))

  43. DannyT Says:

Interestingly, ANR has posted a link to British news programme ‘Newsnight’, in which agent Barry Silkman (talking about bungs) closes by suggesting he’s closing a major deal for a player to Arsenal on Tuesday. Looking at the players Silkman represents, most of them are from Middlesbrough - so all except Yakubu looks likely. Apparently Silkman has links with Michael Owen, so with reports suggesting Newcastle is after Kanoute perhaps Owen is on his way to Arsenal. Seems unlikely that Wenger would buy such an injury prone player though. I guess we’ll find out who it is this week.

  44. gunner4life Says:

So if Reyes is offered a contract with RM, does it mean Wenger will take Baptista?! I hope not!

  45. DannyT Says:

Sorry, I meant Yakubu looks THE MOST likely out of the Middlesbrough players.

Also saw Real Madrid tonight, Reyes changed the game and won them that game single-handed, they looked totally uninspired before he came on. By all accounts he is definitely leaving, one swallow doesn’t make a summer.

  46. DannyT Says:

Reyes and Baptista are not linked, why do you people they are? Wenger can keep both, get rid of both or do whatever he wants. It seems obvious that Baptista is gone already and there’s no way Reyes is coming back. They’re both gone.

  47. Chris Stagliola Says:

    Is this thing working?
    Hello?
    Anybody in there???

Why no posts since the “white shirts” post?
I know Sheed has asked, as he has one pending…?
    ‘allo?

  48. nipuna Says:

I hope Reyes’ good show earns us 10M+ for him.

  49. joshuad Says:

For Jose to come on late and win the game for Real Madrid was simply phenomenal. It goes to show that Wenger truly knows. Even though I’m still not convinced on the Walcott money, the Reyes money was a smart buy. It just didn’t work out according to plan.

When Wenger signed Reyes he said Jose would be a big game player, especially in Europe. I think proof is in his performance last night’s game when Real were losing. Also the ‘05 FA Cup Final. Jose was sent off but he, along with Lehmann, were our best players in a game that we were completely dominated.

That’s not to mention his contribution to Arsenal reaching their first ever Champions League Final. I’m sure Cicinho and Jonathan Zebina still have nightmares about Jose. He should have given mares to Oleguer as well but that milk is spilled. We surely missed Reyes in Europe this year.

One could only wonder what could have and should have been if not for Arragones’ “black sh*t” comments. If not for that, I’m sure Jose would have settled at Arsenal. Unfortunately, it was he and not Arragones that had to go to the Arsenal dressing room everyday after that. That’s a very unfortunate predicament to be in. Hell, I may have “failed to settle” too.

  50. joshuad Says:

I mentioned to someone the other day that with Beckahm leaving, Jose may even sign for Real Madrid as they can’t afford to lose Beckham and Reyes at the same time. With Reyes desire to play for the club and his heroics last night, I’m sure his signing would be welcomed.

Congrats to Jose. Now go make us at least twelve million, bitch! Daddy needs some new shoes.

  51. Chris Stagliola Says:

I wouldn’t take Reyes back if they paid us money to take him…

  52. DannyT Says:

Again, people have short memories. Reyes was a half-decent player for Arsenal, but to be honest after a handful of excellent games at the start of his career he was pretty hopeless from then on. I think his best position would be Henry’s position, left-sided striker - but he never got to play there. As a midfielder he’s pretty ineffective - although perfect for coming on an as a late sub - especially when playing for Real Madrid who pull teams all over the place towards the end of games leaving him lots of space.

Anyone who saw the game yesterday would have also seen his preposterous tackle that on any other day might have seen him sent off. The boy has no brain. I wouldn’t want him back - better to move on and get someone better.

  53. Mazza Says:

Reyes’ best position is a right-sided forward, constantly dropping deep to the right. The guy has no balance whatsoever and can only play effectively when he can open his body up and approach the goal from right and play quick give and goes and shots similar to last night. Play him on the left wing and he is hopeless and easy to read because he can only go right as he leans so heavily in that direction. It’s the way the lad is built and is the reason he will never be a great player. As Danny said, he is also as thick as shite and does not possess the intelligence to be able to utilise his natural talent on any sort of consistent level.

I wonder what this Tuesday transfer deal is about. It better not be that 12 year old from Norway. Owen or Malouda and I would be happy.

  54. Andez Says:

Reyes’ best position for Arsenal is on the bench! ; )

Seriously, I think he’s a fine player, technically he’s pretty brilliant… without he physical challenge there is.

I am sure if he really make it a personal mission to make it in the Preimership, he CAN. If as soft-looking a player like Pires could make it in the Premiership, this kid Reyes supposingly coming from a tough neighbour when he’s growing up surely can. Problem is - this guy always allowed himself to have a PLAN B, that’s if it doesn’t work, I am outta here.

With an attitude like that, he WILL NEVER make it in the Premiership.

  55. joshuad Says:

I haven’t said anything about bringing Reyes back. The whole point of my post is to confirm what Wenger saw in him originally when he signed Reyes.

In fact if my short memory serves me correctly I think post 50 said something along the lines of “go and get my money, bitch!”. Can you see how that and bring back Reyes may sound the same? :-)

As far as gunner4life asking the question about Reyes and Baptista being linked; he asked the question because he didn’t know the answer. When people don’t know the answer to a question, they ask somebody who might know. Imagine that.

As far as Reyes ridiculous tackle, I think it was more cynical than preposterous. It was bad enough to be a second yellow but not a straight red. Besides, when you’ve just won your team a title when they were so so close to losing who cares?

Reyes may lean a bit but so does Hleb and he shakes the crap out of people every game. If he’s so easy to “D-Up” then why do people still feel the need to kick the shi*t out of him every week? Is it coincidental that the “black sh*t” incident and becoming a shite player after a few good games happened simultaneously? Please. Now the kid’s got to go back to a dressing room full of big black guys that are talking too loud. Where’s the love?

For a kid about 23 years old to go out there with THE WHOLE WORLD watching and turn a huge game on it’s head is something you’ve truly got to respect whether you like him or not. I’m not saying bring him back. I’m just giving props where they’re truly due. Like Stag says, Fabregas ain’t won jack shite. Jose’s won an EPL, FA Cup, and a Spanish League title. You think he could have helped us against Barcelona last May? Truly, no one has ever argued that point with me.

  56. Mazza Says:

Does anyone also notice how Reyes can’t run in a straight line without his torso going backwards to the point where any little touch from a player sends him reeling backwards and asking for a foul. Watch him run next time, the top part of his body goes backwards and he can’t run forward anymore.

  57. Mazza Says:

The point is Joshuad is that Reyes doesn’t really get molested as much as everybody thinks. Any little tap and goes down clutching his ankle. The only time he really got done over was by that dirty tosser Scholes in the F.A Cup Semi three years ago and by the Neville Sisters in the game at OT, and even those tackles were not that bad.

Hleb is a better dribbler than Reyes and has alot better balance. Reyes’ left-foot can be a wand when he wants it to be. He can also play give-and-goes as good as anybody when he picks the ball up on the right. The difference between his play on the right and the left is startling. Reyes can’t actually run on the left hand side of the pitch if a players confronts him because he can’t go on the outside.

  58. DannyT Says:

Reyes is actually left-footed, so theoretically he should play as a left-sided forward, that’s where he played for Seville and looked an astounding talent.

Managers tend to have their own ideas about where players can play, so from that perspective you could say he has always been played out of position since he left Sevilla.

The tackle Reyes committed last night was ridiculous because I the score was 1-1, so had Madrid gone down to 10 men they might well have lost the title. Even if they were 2-1 up the result would have been on a knife edge and the title with it. Over here that sort of tackle is a yellow, but foreign refs don’t look so kindly on such outrageous tackles, so I reckon he could well have got a straight red in ordinary circumstances.

Anyway, he only scored 6 goals before last night for Madrid, that’s four less than Baptista did and he played the whole season in midfield. So although he finished well his goal return was feeble for a club of their stature.

  59. joshuad Says:

Well Reyes did play last night and those two goals definitely counted. Baptista, who was a striker, only got 3 league goals this season. (Who cares what Baptista did against Liverpool’s thrid string defence and backup keeper.)

Also Reyes, as a midfielder with the season on the line, and off the bench, found a way to get on the score sheet twice. Did I mention with the season on the line? Lastly, beside Gilberto, he outscored all of Arsenal’s other midfielders who, collectively scored only 11 league goals.

Personally, I think Arsenal could have done with 8 more “feeble” league goals from midfield this season but that’s just me. To each his own.

Think of it like this, Jose didn’t play every league game this season but Arsenal had four and sometimes 5 midfielders on the field 38 times this season and, besides Gilberto, only managed 11 goals. WTF?

  60. DannyT Says:

Well according to your daft theory, for Reyes to have played for Arsenal all last season he would have to have taken Rosicky’s position, so had he scored 8 goals it would only be 2 more than Rosicky scored.

  61. joshuad Says:

League goals, Danny T, not league cup or fa cup, or charity shield. For Pete’s sake, Aliadiere led the way in the carling cup last year. Who gives a sh*t? League goals is where it’s at. I think Rosicky had three league goals.

Understand, I’m not discounting Rosicky’s league goals as they were important but I’ve heard you say it yourself, “we need more goals from midfield”. That’s all I’m looking for.

  62. DannyT Says:

Yeah, you’re right - no doubt about it. I think Fabregas and Rosicky will start to score more - not sure about Hleb.
