Whew. Man, waking up even earlier this season. Must be really rough on West Coast Gooners.
Okay, here’s one I’ve never gotten a good explanation for. Why are they called FIXTURES, anyway?

Yeah, those games starting at 4 a.m. on the west coast will be a treat for supporters over there.
As defined by Merriam-Webster, a fixture is, “a settled date or time especially for a sporting or festive event.” So it is accurate in its usage, though certainly not common to those of us on this side of the Atlantic.
I do not necessarily like this term (I would much prefer ‘match’ or even ‘game’ -imagine that!), but that is the way it is used in the mother land, so I am trying to play along nicely.

DVR/Tivo…not quite as fun as a live match (especially if you can’t resist not touching the FF button) on TV but worth the extra hours of sleep.

Thanks, Barham. (A dictionary, huh? Damn, that’s what I get for using the stupid internet.)
Bo, yeah, I had to Tivo a mid-week match last year. Couldn’t keep away from the FF. Oddly, I lack that discipline but can manage to wake up at 7 on a Saturday, no matter how late I was up the night before.
