Arsenal 3 – 1 Portsmouth

Emmanuel Adebayor’s 7th minute penalty conversion after Robin van Persie was brought down by David James got the Gunners off to a flying start this afternoon at the Grove. Cesc Fabregas added a second a few minutes before half-time, bundling one home off of a corner. He scored off of a corner! I know, I couldn’t believe we’d scored either!

The only speed bump to an otherwise perfect day was the sending off of Phillip Senderos early in the second half. It may have been a bit harsh, but the tackle was clumsy, and Arsenal found themselves down to ten men for the bulk of the second half.

No matter, as Tomas Rosicky caught the Pompey defense napping and slammed one home across the face of goal to make it 3-0 to the Arsenal. Kanu pulled one back for the visitors a few moments later, although I don’t think he knew much about it. The cross ricocheted off of his leg and in past Almunia.

Abou Diaby made a big impression after coming on as a second half substitute, and should have scored Arsenal’s fourth after meeting a perfectly placed cross and heading it wide.

So, still unbeaten in the league going into the international break. Next up, Scum at the Lane on the 15th. After several complaints, Fox Soccer Channel have decided to show the match live at 8:30 AM ET that morning, instead of their original plan of showing it on delay at4:30 PM.

I for one can’t wait. I’ll see all you Baltimore gooners at Slainte!
