Well, its the League Cup again. Slowly now as the season rolls on, squad depth will be tested yet again. People like Fred have already declared their views on the Carling Cup
but I feel its a very important tournament for our young-er squad players. People like Traore, Denilson, Hoyte, Nortveidt, Bendtner, Theo even might get some well needed playing time. If we get knocked out in the first round these super talented kids will not have much playing time this season and nothing to look forward to except the odd substitution appearance. This might be fine in other clubs like Chelsea where the kids never play anyway (Do they even have any kids in the first place?) but not at AFC where youth is the flavor of the moment as has been the case for many years now. So yes I’d love to see the kids go one step further and win the thing. Lets see what happens…
As for Newcastle I watched a bit of their game against West Ham, mainly to get an idea of how they play. A lot of the play seems to switch through Milner and N’Zogbia both primarily down the left. Which means one thing — more crosses from the left side. Mark Viduka on form is a pain in the butt for any center back and he is on form now so we need to watch him and Martins who we were extensively linked with. I’m pretty sure King Kolo will play this one along with Sendy, Traore and Hoyte making up a decent back four.
Expect a midfield of Theo,Denilson,Song and Diaby..I’m not sure this is the best there is but I wont be shocked to see Alex out there. Though I guess Diarra might play as well instead of Song.
Its a no brainer up front with Eduardo and Bendtner starting and they’ll get a chance to show what they can do. I think Eduardo will get 1 goal at least today after his excellent but unrewarded performance against Derby, but more so because Bendtner is playing thus creating the big man - little man combination.
I think we’ll win this because Big Sam will try and go physical and Newcastle bar Nicky Butt maybe really don’t have the players to kick that much. I see us winning by the odd goal.
Arsenal 2 - Newcastle 1
p.s… Owen is injured again.. sad but I can see why all top flight managers are wary of buying the guy.

I expect Wenger to field this team:
——————Fabianski—————
Hoyte—Song—Senderos—Traore
Walcott–Diarra–Denilson–Diaby
——-Bendtner—Eduardo————
It will be a tough game, but I believe in this guys… 2:1 to the Arsenal, just like LDE said.

Happy that no first teamer is in the side.
Surprised that Song will play at CB and that Norveidt and Gibbs are missing.
Newcastle will play their strongest side.
1-1.

Apparently AW might see Song as an eventual center back. It will be interesting to see him play there. Obviously, he has rarely played there in the past, so I will cut him some slack.

This will be an interesting game, that defense looks dire - none of the defenders can defend. I’d be surprised if we won with that shambles at the back. Maybe Senderos will play better seeing as the match is not very important - either that or he’ll make a complete fool of himself.

Hey, DannyT. I am impressed by your faith in AW and our team

Does anyone know if this game is being broadcast live on any TV stations or websites or if there are any later broadcasts. ATVO is only doing a live audio of the game.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:45 am
It’s not being broadcast in the US. ATVO is your best option.

Waiting to see if Eboue gets some playing time today.
Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle.
+ Bendtner scoring the winner

its great that toure, fabregas and both first choice strikers are rested. perfect because i couldnt care less for this competition. it is this exact squad that should play all our CC matches even if we get to the semis.
fabianski
hoyte - senderos - song - traore
walcott - diarra - denilson - diaby
eduardo - bendtner
with bench of: mannone, eboue, g. hoyte, merida and landsbury
eboue will probably come in for walcott on 65 minutes but apart from that we probably wont make any other changes except we have a really comfortable lead.
this defense is probably the very WORST possible defensive permutation this club could have. as long as we concede less than 3 goals i will be happy.

you WILL be a HAPPY man after this match.

Actually, I see a surprise brewing… I think it will be a blowout either way. 3-0 us or 3-1 them…. It’s at the Emirates, right? My feeling is at home, with a team on form, maybe a little rowdier crowd than normal, and with a team on high, we win easily. Just a hunch.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
we might still win ofcourse…but make no mistake all four of our defenders are the worst in their position. hoyte is good one-on-one but lets wingers behind him. traore is very good offensively but like hoyte is easy to get past.
senderos is well documented while song was a disaster at CB in the preseasons. i wouldnt mind being surprised though.

2 - 0 to the Arsenal. I think the defence will hold and we’ll get one each from Bendy and Eduardo. Come on you gunners!
September 25th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
I would just like to see a win because it is key to helping the younger/less experienced players get “first team matches”. Look at last year’s run. Other than that the competition means little, which is a shame
September 25th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
I’ll eat my hat if we keep a clean sheet. In years gone by Toure and Eboue probably would have played this game - even Djourou. But Hoyte, Senderos, Song and Traore is the worst Arsenal defence I have ever seen for a top flight game.
I’m not criticising Wenger, I don’t really care if we win or lose - and obviously neither does he. It would be nice to win because the competition gives more playing time to fringe players, which I think is important.
I’ll just say good luck to the Arsenal defence, you’re gonna need it.

Star Sports in Asia is showing the game I think. So that may be picked up with some live streams with like webfootie.com.

I am a bit in shock as well. That is pretty close to a full Newcastle side. Congrats to the kids.
September 25th, 2007 at 4:47 pm
Does anyone know if this game will be broadcast later in any of the channels. I really need to see how the kids did.
September 25th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
There are highlights on Sky Sports 1 at midnight.
September 25th, 2007 at 4:56 pm

CLEAN SHEET

Senderos cleared off the line too - saved the team’s ass. Arsenal were awesome by the sound of it, both BBC and Sky picked out Fabianski, Diarra, Traore and Denilson as exceptional. Denilson’s goal was astonishing by all accounts. Eboue was rampant too, in fact the whole team was superb by the sound of it.

From a Newcastle Blog:
“This was the beautiful game played beautifully by the Arsenal youngsters . It was almost an exhibition by Wenger’s brilliant youngster……But hats off to Arsenal - who were better technically than the Newcastle players tonight - where does Wenger get these players from?……. If Alex Ferguson watched this game he would have seen that Arsenal’s first team and reserve team could probably both win the Premiership this season – their reserve team is that phenomenal.”
Not my words but what praise.

Glad to hear that Eboue was a live wire. We are going to need him while Rosicky is out.
September 25th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
Ha, Ha. Fuck off Allardyce you wanker!
September 25th, 2007 at 6:13 pm
A clean sheet with Sendy and Song as centre backs? Am I dreaming?
September 25th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
anyone have links to some clips of this game ? I am still a little stunned by the result.
I know we have scored goals late in the game, but it seems like a LOT of our goals this season have come in the last 10 minutes…whats up with that (not complaining about it)…however I would be less on edge if we scored earlier
September 25th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
average age 20….woow. am shocked senderos and song didnt concede….big props to them.
did anybody actually watch the game?? can they say where eboue played? RM or RB….and if so where did walcott play? how did walcott do?
anyway, from the reports and from the goal highlights…it seems diaby, denilson, traore and especially eboue have given us solid depth in midfield and leftback.
diaby and denilson are developing the killer touches which is always good.
bendtner remains a solid forward option …and perfect sub for adebayor.
while eboue should keep up this sort of form.
but it is really amazing that we pinned down and bullied newcastles first team with a 20 year old average age team. damn!
