Steaua Bucharest 0 – 1 Arsenal

Robin van Persie’s 75th minute goal was just what the Gunners deserved after a hard fought match in Romania tonight.

Despite dominating long stretches of the match, Arsenal seemed to have reverted back to 2006-2007 standards, missing from point blank range and putting good chances over the bar multiple times in the first half.

Steaua seemed buoyed by this at halftime, and put together a good run of play early in the second half. Arsenal however stepped it up a notch and controlled things easily in the last twenty minutes, getting the goal in the 75th, and having all of the chances late.

Alex Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor overcame the injuries they suffered against West Ham on Saturday to play large roles today. Adebayor in particular harried the Steaua defense repeatedly.

At least that’s what it sounded like on ATVO. Anyone who actually watched the match care to chime in?

Next up is Roy Keane’s Sunderland at home on Sunday. Kickoff is at 7AM ET, and the match will be shown live here in the US on Setanta USA.
