The Long Term – A life without Wenger

With record financial results and the uncertainty of Arsene’s future now resolved, the talk of what will happen once Arsene leaves has dried up a little, but the question remains. This is not a direct response to whether we need a sugar daddy plus Dein or not, but I thought it’d be interesting to see where we might be when Arsene’s current contract expires in 2011.

There is 70m available should Arsene wish to spend and our financial position will only improve as time goes on. By 2010 the board projects our debt as being 76m, at the current rate that means it would take less than 2 home games to pay the interest so I’d suggest our cash available for transfers will be more than 70m by 2011, either that or Kaka and Messi will be on the bench. Financially, it looks pretty rosy.

In terms of the playing staff, it looks even better. Of the current first team squad, in 2011 Arsene legacy would be:

Fabianski – age in 2011: 26
Sagna -28
Eboue – 28
Clichy – 26
Traore – 22
Toure – 30
Senderos (maybe) – 26
Djourou – 24
Fabregas – 24!!
Walcott – 22
Diarra – 26
Diaby – 25
Flamini – 27
Denilson – 22
Song – (you never know) 22
Hleb – 30
Rosicky – 31
RVP – 28
Adebayor – 27
Eduardo – 28

So players to replace, and they are key players, would be Hleb, Rosicky, a CB plus a GK. Over the next 4 years we’ll get the usual wastage, the occasional big sale and probably 1 to 4 players promoted from the youth/reserve team and there are some 16 year olds in there who predictably are meant to be awesome (I don’t really need to list them as we all pretty much know their names)…and all these young players will pass UEFAs home grown player standard.

The future for Arsenal really does look great and it’ll be even better if we can get some success this season.
