In Search of a #1 Henry still on the minds of many…
Oct 16

Yours truly was asked recently to “sit down” for an interview with Tim Love of Arsenal Insider.

During the interview we discuss how I came to love the Arsenal; Rick Liebling and the formation of Arsenal America; the growth of football/soccer in the United States, and much more.

Check out what Tim promises to be the first of many interviews posted each Friday featuring Gooners from the world over: Arsenal Insider - Arsenal Fans Around the World: Arsenal America

Thanks Tim!

  1. Brendan K Says:

Great article Mikek. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put into this.

  2. Andez Says:

Mike, may i check with u when was the site ArsenalAmerica.com first created?

  3. mikek Says:

I’m fairly certain that the site first went online back in 2001, not too long after Rick first started ArsenalAmerica. He got some help from Andrew Leyden, who continues to assist in running the back-end of the site to this day.

Hey Mike, nice interview. This site has become important to me as I check it almost every day. Keep up the good work.

It appears we have a boost on Saturday as Sammy Lee just got the ax, or left by mutual consent if that’s what you want to call it. I said it last year that Bolton were the opposite of us as they recruit so many old guys. Well it appears the age of their team has caught up with them.

  5. Andez Says:

I wonder when did all the regulars here first joined this site? Mine was 2004 I believe. The familiar names around that time ScottyUS, LoveG, Stag are no longer here. DannyT and Mazza are probably the oldest name I can recall are still around.

btw MikeK, interesting to see u r inspired by Fever Pitch to support Arsenal!

  6. Rick Says:

Andrew can probably give you a more precise answer, but I think the website came in early 2002.

    Great interview Mike.

  7. SeattleGunner Says:

    Great article / interview.

What’s the story on membership cards. did they all get mailed out?

  8. mikek Says:

Cards got mailed out from Chicago late last week.

  9. dwinkler Says:

The website did come in early 2002. I rummaged through some old emails and saw references to the “new” website in about March 2002. This was from the March 7, 2002 edition of The Cannonball (god, I loved The Cannonball):

    3. Arsenal America News - website coming in mere days

Barring some technical breakdowns we should be ready
to launch our website in a few days. The site will
feature info on tickets and travel if you are going to
see the Arse in person; pub info for checking out
games on this side of the Atlantic and tons of other
info. Of course all the great features you’ve come to
enjoy in the Cannonball - Schadenfreude of the week,
The Unmitigated Crap Index, Member Mailbag and the
editorials will also be there. We will be looking for
input and comments from all the members, good or bad.

This will also mean the end of the Cannonball as we
know it. It would be just too much to keep a website
and a newsletter going at the same time. But we think
once you see all the added content that the site will
have (eventually) you’ll agree we’ve made the right
decision. So get ready for the unveiling, maybe as
    early as next week!
