So much for the headbutt.
Emmanuel Adebayor shook off any affects from “Buttgate” and scored twice to propel Arsenal past Newcastle in a potentially tricky 4th-round FA Cup tie.
Adebayor scored early in the 2nd half off an Eduaro shot that hit the post, then scored late in the half to put the game away. Nicky Butt added an own goal to cap off the 3-0 win.
Newcastle played an open style, as expected under new(ish) manager Kevin Keegan, but were shut out for the 2nd consecutive match.
Nicklas Bendtner sat quietly on the bench.

He likes big butts and he cannot lie!
Superb performance from Ade, and Eduardo and Walcott also impressed.

Great response from the Arsenal.
Well done guy’s!!

I think Eduardo should get assists for the first and second goals. On the second, he very cleverly blocked Cacapa (basketball style) allowing Ade a free run.
I think Cesc should get an assist on the third goal, although his free kicks were generally poor.

Bad news. Toure’s groin injury confirmed. Extent of damage not yet known.

How come we always get injuries in positions we’re already short in? Anyway if Sendy continues playing like he has(fingers crossed) Kolo might not be missed for a while.
January 27th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
and while on international duty.
January 27th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I’m not surprised they get injured on those crappy, badly cut bone dry African pitches. It wouldn’t surprise me if half of all the players come back injured.
January 27th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Well they better get used to them, and so better all the best players in the world, because the World Cup is coming to S.Africa soon!
January 27th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I’d like to think in order for a nation to host a major tournament, there is certain stand it has to be met in terms of ground facility, that included pitch surface. Not sure about ANC, but pretty sure about the World Cup.

Only an American wouldn’t know the difference between Africa and South Africa.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
This space was going to be a rant about post #12. Never mind.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Only an American wouldn’t know the difference between Africa and South Africa.
What does that mean?
January 27th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
#12 is just being a prick. It’s not uncommon.
January 27th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
@ 12: i live in the states and i can tell u that americans arent that stupid…you seem to have the cliche of a typical american all worked out.
i am sure most ppl know that SA is generally wealthier than the average sub-saharan.
as for comment 9, african pitches are not that bad, they usually get some european or chinese firms to do it for them anyway.
so how about we drop the stereotypes hey.
January 27th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
i am however worried about the toll the heat is having on toure though (dont really care much for eboue). and it seems like the refs allow a lot of rather dangerous tackles to go scot free.
oh well, fingers crossed.

Danny @12 for your information we have a shortage of maps in this country. (source: Miss Teen Tennessee.)

vibe: it actually was Miss Teen South Carolina (probably not much of a difference…) - I wonder if she voted Saturday?

In a matter of one year, we might go from excess CM + deficit WM to deficit CM + excess WM situation.
Start of 07-08 season
CM - Gilberto, Flamini, Diarra, Song, Cesc, Denilson
WM - Hleb, Rosicky, Eboue, Diaby
Start of the 08-09 season
CM - Cesc, Denilson, Song, Flamini? Gilberto?
WM - Hleb, Rosicky, Eboue, Diaby, Vela, Randall? Gibbs? Gouffran?
January 28th, 2008 at 5:39 am
danny are u a muppet - the pitches in africa have nothing to do with why there injured. Hes a defender, african nations is one of the most highly scored in competitions. Kolo is giving it his all to help them win it this year - they got to final last.
Howabout u watch soma the games and stop moaning.
Great preformance agaisnt newcastle in 2nd half.
January 28th, 2008 at 6:33 am
Well, I missed the game on Saturday (hanging out with my boy). It’s almost like I’m not an Arsenal fan anymore; but I’ve got Arsenal TV, bitches. Ha-ha-ha! I’m sure they’ll show a replay tonight.
It was good to see us bounce back from the midweek fiasco at WHL. I don’t care what anyone says, 5-1 is a clinical beat-down. Then Adebayor and Bendtner decided to have a boxing match during a football match. The best way to get past that is to throw someone a 3-0 beating. It was good to see Adebayor get in on the goals as well.
I was critical of Diaby and have read mixed reviews of his performance. Obviously, you can’t make a sound judgement based on a single performance. Fortunately for Diaby, it looks like he’ll get his third game in a week as Tomas is still broke. We’ll see how he does. I’m glad you guys are paying attention. I think if he had Denilson’s vision then his game would go through the roof. He could be as good as Kaka in a couple of years. We’ll let time tell.
Wenger may want to freshen things up for tomorrow. It seems that Senderos is doing fine and I’ll expect Sagna and Almunia to come back into the team tomorrow. I’ve read an article that Lehmann wants to continue to fight for his place. That’s obviously good for Arsenal but I don’t see Almunia screwing up enough for Jens to get his place back. Again, we’ll let time tell.

Arsenal agree fee for Jonathan Woodgate.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:00 am
Did Wenger join the race after hearing about Toure’s injury?
January 28th, 2008 at 8:09 am
Update: It appears Sky Sports News just made up the whole thing. Keith Lamb has also backtracked. The transfer never made sense, when looking through Wenger’s eyes anyway.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:15 am
My guess is we’ve shown a bit of interest but we’ve left it too late. Wenger is not exactly the early bird gets the worm type when it comes to transfers.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Lot of people have got onto the story including Myles @ ANR.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:20 am
The FA Cup draw has very few BPL teams left. Apart from the top four, it’s only Pompey and Boro.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:35 am
@ 28, u do know there is no such thing as BPL (british premiere league right)?
January 28th, 2008 at 8:51 am
I used to say EPL till someone told me it’s the BPL - Barclay’s Premier League.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Damn, it’s ManU at OT in the FA Cup.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Wenger denies Woodgate story on Arsenal.com
January 28th, 2008 at 9:47 am
getting the feeling its going to be a double year for either us or manure
would have liked to meet them a little later, but you’ve got to beat the best at some point or the other.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Funny, right after I saw that Manu had beaten Spurs, I knew it was going to be the two of us in the next round.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:49 am
woodgate would have been a “practical” buy, could have helped hold fort for the rest of the season on a short term contract, thats what i thought, guess wenger doesnt agree :(.
no doubting his quality (cant say the same of hsi injury record though).
January 28th, 2008 at 9:58 am
16/17 Feb - ManU at OT
20 Feb - Milan at the Emirates
4 Mar - Milan at the San Siro
Last season, we were out of all the Cups by Mar 7. This year, it could be even earlier if we don’t register one big win. Still don’t regret finishing second in the CL group?
January 28th, 2008 at 11:20 am
You guys already know how I was bitching about winning the group. Expect to hear me bitching if we go out of the CL to Milan; especially if Sevilla beat Olympiacos, which I expect them to. Going to Sparta Prague with a Carling Cup team was an outrageous display of arrogance that might come back to bite us in the ass. We were the best in our group and should have won it.
Wenger’s downplaying Kolo’s groin injury but I know from first hand experience that there’s no way to determine recovery time for a groin injury, even with scans. It’s all a guess. He said three weeks for Gallas earlier this season and it turned out to be more like 10. Wenger royally screwed up Vieira’s groin prediction, too. With RvP still broke and Fabregas still in this funk, it will be tough with so many tough games all at once. We’ll see.
January 28th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Joshua how good is the Arsenal TV? I am going to get Sky once my TalkTalk contract runs out for that very reason. Mainly to watch the reserves and under 18s I can watch the first team live over the internet if I cannot get to the Emirates.
Anyway I think you will find Diaby had a good game against Newcastle I recently watched the first half as well as the second. You have inspired me to watch him with a more critical eye of late. But I am sure you will agree, as you sound like a man who really knows about his football, he had a good game for that game at least. Only made two wrong passes in the first half one was a great idea but just a little too hard to execute and he got caught in posession only once (1st half). lost the ball twice in the sencond half and missed placed one place until I stopped counting, however he gained possession/intercepted twice in that same period.
I know it’s only one game but I am sure previous good performances, his CC performance and hopefully plenty more good performances to come will win you over some day Josh. Although he frustrates the hell out of you I know you want him to succeed as much as i do and Irakli by the sound of it!
By the way you were right to bitch about not wining the group but i think Wenger although he is downplaying the issue was actually over confident in the ability of his yet to be defeated young squad. Still think we can beat Milan though.. Well that’s just me being optimistic as usual, but time will tell right.
