Wow, the match kicks off in just under two hours, and still no previews coming in. Perhaps everyone just figures it’s more of the same after Saturday’s Cup match. Well, in some respects, it is. The questions coming into tonight are:
1) What will the side look like?
2) Can the Gunners exploit Newcastle to lower that goal differential any?
It’s been a while since we’ve beaten Newcastle in the league, so as far as I’m concerned, tonight’s as good a time as any to get a nice big win.
Also, I’m working on a recap of the dinner we held in DC on Friday night in honor of Danny Karbassiyoon. A great time was had by all, and there were a ton of pictures and video taken. I figured there’ll be pre, during and post game discussion today, so I’ll post the recap tomorrow.

The question is, what can Keegan do to alter what looks like an inevitable result? Emre and Viduka are back, but the more Newcastle attack you feel the more it plays into Arsenal’s hands.
Arsenal’s biggest threat is probably themselves. We really need to remain focused and not simply assume it will be a walkover.

yea attacking us will really leave them exposed…keegan just hasnt adapted to the ‘park the bus’ strategy of the 21st century.that siad they were pretty good going forward and defensively against us on sat.
i predict a rout, 4-1

We will win this again; only it’ll be tighter than Saturday ; Newcastle will be a bit more defensive but we’ll win it 2-0. BTW jizzyk Denilson is injured and not going to play. And Hleb doesn’t start?? COme on

Hleb is starting

Great to see the team Wenger has put out…..exactly what I was hoping for. Looks pretty much our strongest line-up given enforced absences.
Ade and Dudu up front. I’m really keen to see these 2 gel.
Hleb is there which is really good for the team and for Fabregas who we need to see him continue to fine-tune his passing sights.
Rosicky, having his compulsory R&R. I wonder what Wenger is thinking about this guy? I mean, how can you rely on him, and how can he improve when he breaks down so much. The difference with RvP is that when RvP is on the field he is a significant contributor. With RvP you know you’re being patient with a guy who has the quality the team needs, with Rosicky it’s about potential still to be realised.
Looking forward to this game.

Wenger is thinking, what most of us are…
Wow, Robin VP is so freaking talented… he can change the match with a few touches of the ball, but… he can’t stay away from the injury bug. What do I do with him?!

This is frustrating. They’ve been one pass away about 10 times now, and haven’t scored, and this is as much as I can watch. I’ll check in later to see how things went. COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!

Yay Ade!
January 29th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
He’s the man.

i first noticed the transformation in ade when he came on against spurs last week. his confidence as he was sprung from the bench was thierry-esque.he was gagging to get on and knew he was to have an impact.maybe it was only because it was spurs(we all know of his record) or it is a new inner self-belief borne out of hsi goalscoring streak.i was amazed by his audacity in trying to go on his own rather than to pass right for his goal.as i say this he has just tried an outrageous bicycle kick…wow
hopefully he can contain this confidence and not let it spill over into arrogance.yes he has learned some valuable lessons from titi but he must not to replicate his attitude.
i suppose we saw the potentially good and bad in ade at spurs: the confidence and then the talking down to bendtner

Flamini is having a hell of a game. We all know he’s always worked hard, but he’s flashing some real skill now. Two years ago, I never would have believed he’d look so comfortable on Arsenal’s first team. Delighted to have been wrong.

And I posted that about 10 minutes before he scored that corker. Goodonya, Mat.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
What a bomb! Let’s try to get a another and whittle down this goal difference.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
What a strike from Flamini. Just as I was getting nervy as well.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Someone should do a Nancy Kerrigan on Gilberto. Just kidding.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Flamini scores with as sweet a strike as you can imagine. Placed perfectly.
I’m liking this guy more and more. I’ve always considered him a useful team man but his impact on our game seems to keep rising.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
And Cesc makes it
Thank you and good night!

Lovely bit of skill by Bendtner - control, composure and awareness - controls a long ball from left back lays it off to Fabregas - lovely for Fab to get a goal, good strike.
There are a lot of positives coming out of this game.

These 2 games against Newcastle have been just what the doctor ordered.
You can see the increased confidence pumping through the team.
Our football relies a lot on timing anf fluency and we’ve had the chance to improve that in these games.

Can we play Newcastle again this weekend? Please?
January 29th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Arsenal made that look easy. Never in first gear, but you can see the early season confidence starting to come back now.
Off to Man City, who were dreadful against Sheff Utd on Sunday but look a different team at home.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
can the travelling Arsenal fans take balloons to Man City on sat?
