Just as Arsenal were getting some players returning from injury, others join the injured list. And that means that an already stretched squad will be strained to the max considering upcoming key league and cup fixtures. While the cup games present the best chances of a trophy, Arsenal can’t entirely forget the league fixtures either as 4th place isn’t completely secured nor is 3rd place out of reach yet. So it goes without saying that 3 points at the JJB are essential but also not picking up any more injuries will be even more beneficial. The recent injury to Almunia and Clichy means that Denilson will become Arsenal’s best player this season…..in terms of keeping injury free. On Saturday Denilson will tie Almunia for 31 league starts and extend his tally to having played in 43 games overall this season. As it is, Denilson’s total appearance of 42 games is one more than Clichy (who has also featured in 31 leagues with 30 starts), Almunia and Sagna’s total of 41 games. Even though Denilson spent the latter part of the previous season injured, this season he has managed to stay fit. And if he manages to finish the season without getting injured, then maybe the Arsenal coaching staff should inject a few drops of his blood into the other Arsenal players for next season to keep them fit
Although that statement does open the gates for plenty of jokes but given Arsenal’s serious injury situation over the last few seasons, something has to be done be it buying more players (which goes against the existing mantra) or resorting to black magic.
