A Bolton Requiem

Cesc v Bolton

Alas, this will be the last time that we play Bolton . . . this week?  Thank goodness this chapter of our season is coming to a close . . . and right soon.  Did you see the match on Sunday?  I certainly did, and all I can say was WTF?  I mean seriously . . . were they playing football, or were they looking to shank some of our players on the pitch.  Some of the tackles were beyond Red.  We should have had at least 2 penalties against Cesc, and it is truly amazing that half of our team did not limp off the field with serious injuries.  So what was the pre-match conversation like from the newly appointed Owen Coyle?  “OK lads . . . humm . . . OK, I got it.  They are going to be infinitely better than you.  I mean infinitely.  So I know some of you carry guns, shanks, and shivs so make sure to pack them in your socks.”  Do what you need to do, and oh . . . if we get a goal, all the better.”  This wasn’t a game of anti-football, this was a game of “let’s hurt everyone on the pitch.  Don’t they know that our players are made of fine porcelain glass?  Don’t they know that a soft wind will take our players off of the pitch for weeks at a time?  I mean come on . . . let’s be a bit more gentle with our beloved Gunners.  I’m sorry . . . I needed to get that off my chest.  Now, on to Bolton?

Arsenal v Bolton II

Yes, it is true . . . we play Bolton again . . . today at 2:45PM EDT.  We welcomed Owen Coyle to Bolton with a loving 2-nil romp at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday.  I want to thank Spain for their fantastic contributions of Cesc and Fran . . . God bless you Spain!  The Wanderers had a number of chances that they simply blew.  If we had been playing Chelsea or Manchester United . . . well, I shudder to think what could have been.  We are at home today, which is good.  We should see Gael Clichy take back his starting role at left back, while le manager will have to sort out who he will play in the midfield.  Theo is back from injury (but is only one gust away from another month out) along with Denilson.  I would suspect that we will see Mr. Brazil in the midfield as Alex Song is still at the African Cup of Nations.  Here’s to Cameroon’s abysmal performance and exit from the tournament.  Not that I don’t want Cameroon to win, just that I want Song back in the starting line-up.   Today should provide us with a solid test.  Bolton cannot continue to loose games, and we MUST win.  By winning today, we will go atop the table (albeit with Chelsea having a game in hand from the cancellation of their game a week ago).

It is imperative that we maximize this opportunity to get atop the league.  If only for a while.  The psychological importance of being atop the table is huge.  Just ask Chelsea or Manchester United.  The lads will need to keep focused, and will have to play against a very . . . very, physical team.  Bolton have been a tough side for us in the past, so let’s keep it that way.  Make sure to check with your Branch Managers for viewing times and locations.
