Dear Arsenal supporter,
It was a welcome and deserved win against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
In the first half, we had to show patience and intelligence, and I think we controlled the game, even if Wojciech Szczesny had to make a good save in the opening minutes.
In the second half, we were completely in charge and I really could not see Bolton scoring – especially when they went down to ten men. That obviously made it more difficult for them.
We improved a lot after half-time. Before that we were a bit impatient at times, we didn’t move the ball quickly enough and our midfielders dropped a bit deep because they were man-marked. That exposed us a bit to Bolton’s counter-attacking game and we had less support for our forwards.
We changed it around for the second half, so our midfielders played higher up the pitch and immediately we were more dangerous. We created plenty of opportunities and scored three very good goals.
Robin van Persie scored his 99th and 100th goals for Arsenal Football Club on Saturday. He deserves a huge amount of credit for reaching this fantastic milestone – it is a tremendous achievement.
I made Robin captain in the summer and I think he is a guy who develops when he is given responsibility. He has really grown into the captaincy role. Robin is not the loudest in the dressing room, but when he speaks, he speaks his mind and people listen.
The supporters in the stadium gave Robin a great ovation on Saturday. Once again the supporters were great – they have been all season. They really got behind the team and created a very good atmosphere inside the stadium. We are truly grateful for this.
We now look forward to the Champions League again with the visit of Olympiacos to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. It will be another challenge for us and we are looking forward to building on our good performance in Dortmund in our first match.
Thanks for your support.
