From the Arsenal America Membership Office

December 22, 2009 | Leave a Comment

First off, thank you to everyone who has joined Arsenal America this year. Your support is very much appreciated.

In my first year as Secretary, I’ve attempted to process all new/renewed memberships in a timely fashion. However, there are a few membership cards we’ve been unable to send out, for lack of a proper mailing address.

When someone registers a paid membership, we send out an email requesting their current mailing address, but in some cases, we’ve not had any responses to these requests.

If you’re a paid 2009/2010 member but have not received your membership card, please email me and let me know. Be sure and include your mailing address.

Additionally, don’t hesitate to contact me with any other questions you may have about membership.

Happy Holidays!

Mark Barbeau
Secretary

Sleepy Time AKA International Break

November 11, 2009 | 5 Comments

Arsenal Sleeping Bag

Sigh, the international break is upon us.  Pull out your Arsenal sleeping bag, and get ready for a two week nap.  With Arsenal in fine form taking points from those pesky Sp*rs and rabies infested Wolves, the timing of this break is . . . well, less than desirable.   And after hearing that that the entire starting lineup, second team, youth team, academy team, front office, back office, and kit manager will be out on international duty . . . well, we must hope and pray, and do whatever it is that you do, in order for our lads to return unscathed and uninjured.

If I had my way, Cesc, Arshavin, and Van Persie (really the team for that matter) would all be put into individual rooms (I promise, they would be comfortable rooms).  Each room would be climate controlled, and would have all the modern amenities to get them through the next two weeks of solitary confinement.  This way we knew that no one would get injured playing a nonsense game, without any meaning or value . . . say like Theo Walcott getting a run out in a game of absolutely no significance . . . oh wait, they already did that.  I could be hired as the international break safety marshal.  Yea, that’s it.  I would always have plenty of bubble wrap, foam, and pillows to keep our lads safe.

So, Nikky B. looks to be set to have surgery on his groin.  Clichy is still out with a back injury.  There are still others on the mend.  We don’t need to add to that list, which is why I am lobbying heavily for the new International Break Safety Marshall (IBSM . . . which also sounds like a horrible night in the bathroom after eating bad sushi . . . ironic).  With pundits talking about Chelsea winning the league already, I will remind you all that the EPL is not a sprint, rather it is a marathon.  It’s about strategy, training, timing, and sometimes a bit of luck.

We face off against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on November 21st.  We will need our best team to take 3 points from a very formidable team this season.  Cheers to no injuries, lots of bubble wrap, and a well planned marathon!

One last note.  Our very own Arsenal USA interviewed Mr. Fever Pitch, Nick Hornby just recently.  The interview is great, and touches heavily on the book’s impact with American fans.  Check it out!

COME ON YOU GUNNERS!

Man City Grudge Match – Branch Viewings

September 10, 2009 | 5 Comments

Arsenal FC travel to the City of Manchester Stadium to take on Manchester (We’ve Got More Money Than Chelsea) City, in a game that has all the makings of a grudge match.

City now feature former Gunners, Kolo Toure, and Emmanuel Adebayor. While most Gooners will no doubt remember Kolo fondly as one of The Invincibles, Greedybayor may best be remembered not for his goal-scoring prowess or his inability to stay onside, but for claims such as “I’ll Play Like Henry When I’m Paid Like Henry”, and that Arsenal fans “drove him away”.

City will be without Carlos Tevez and possibly Robinho, while Arsenal have lost Andrey Arshavin for the next 3 matches.

AA San Francisco Branch enjoys 6-1 rout!

August 16, 2009 | 2 Comments

And so it begins…

Arsenal’s season got off to a brilliant start with a 6-1 dismantling of a very good Everton side (though you might not have recognized them  as such yesterday).

Arsenal America’s San Francisco Branch AKA the Bay Area Gooners had a tremendous turnout at Maggie McGarry’s for the Gunners’ first match of the season. Seasoned regulars as well as first-timers, were joined by several traveling Brits, all of whom enjoyed goals by Denilson, new boy Vermaelen, Gallas, Eduardo, and two by Cesc Fabregas. Official match report can be found here.

San Francisco Branch enjoys a rout!

San Francisco Branch enjoys a rout!

Feasting on breakfast, including coffee cake baked by the SF Branch Manager (I kid you not), the Gooners celebrated the first of the goals with a rousing “One Nil To The Arsenal”. As the scoring torrent continued, enthusiastic (if not in tune) renditions of “Ooh To Be A Gooner”, and “By Far The Greatest Team” could be heard at different intervals.

The SF Branch also introduced a 2nd shirt for the new season, featuring Maggie’s revered Gooner bartender, Patrick on the back.

As just one of many branches Arsenal America has around the U.S., the Bay Area Gooners are looking forward to a season of lively get-togethers. Check out the Arsenal America Branches page for the Branch in your area.

C’mon you Gunners!
