An unbelievable performance by the Gunners, capped by masterful displays by Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini saw Arsenal defeat the defending champions AC Milan 2-0 in the second leg of their round of sixteen tie in Milan last night. It was the first time an English team had ever beaten Milan at the San Siro, and what a time to do it.
The opening minutes of the game were very cagey as both teams felt things out. Milan had the better of the play at that stage, and in the first twenty minutes, had two excellent chances to take an early lead.
Arsenal did not show their best this morning against Aston Villa and came away with a lucky equalizer in injury time to keep our title hopes alive.
Aston Villa outplayed us throughout and we seemed to still be feeling the effects of Birmingham and AC Milan. Since losing to Manchester United 4-1 in the Carling Cup we have failed to produce convincing performances which has resulted in three draws. Although we still lead Manu by 1 after their 3-0 thrashing of Fulham we are reeling and need to reinvent ourselves very quickly. We have given up 4 points to Manu in...
I was away from a PC for most of the past 48 hours, and when I got home last night I was too tired to think of anything useful to say about what happened on Saturday that hasn’t already been said. The horror of Eduardo’s injury still lingers this morning, although reports indicate that it may not be as bad as initially thought. That is definitely good news.
As for the match itself… Well, the team did well to overcome the shock of Dudu’s injury and the added salt of a James McFadden free-kick goal to take a 2-1 lead thanks to a great performance by Theo Walcott....
An impressive performance from the Gunners in a match where they did everything right but score. Many of the players who were missing during Saturday’s match at Man United were back and ready for the challenge that Champions League holders AC Milan presented in tonight’s first leg of the knockout stage.
Returning to the lineup were Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna, while Emmanuel Adebayor and Mathieu Flamini both started again after coming on as subs on Saturday. Jens Lehmann started in goal in place of the ill Manuel Almunia, and the crazy German was called into action...
Forced to play a relatively weakened side, Arsene Wenger watched as his team was eliminated from a cup competition in a four goal loss to a hated rival for the second time this season. Today’s loss was perpetrated by a rampant Manchester United, who took advantage of a seemingly dis-interested Arsenal to cruise to a 4-0 5th Round FA Cup victory at Old Trafford earlier this afternoon. With the Champions League match against AC Milan taking place this Wednesday, Wenger decided to rest the human goal machine Emmanuel Adebayor as well as Mathieu Flamini. Returning to the side were Kolo...
Listened to this one while driving from NY to DC this afternoon. Philip Senderos and Mathieu Flamini both shook off knocks to start while Gilberto started in center midfield and Cesc moved out wide.
Just minutes after kickoff, Arsenal were ahead thanks to a Senderos headed goal. The big Swiss defender was all alone at the far post during a corner and smashed the ball in from just a few yards out.
It would be another 85 minutes until the match was truly won, when Adebayor scored his twelfth goal in nine games, and that was that. Everything in the middle was a bit frustrating...
Two more goals from Emmanuel Adebayor, and an absolutely sick goal from Eduardo helped the Gunners earn a 3-1 victory over Manchester City earlier today.
Despite City’s impressive home form this season, it never seemed as though they’d threaten the Arsenal goal. In fact, their only sniff of goal came from a rare Gael Clichy mistake which lead to a Gelson Fernandes goal which cut the Gunners lead to 2-1 late in the first half.
No, it’s not deja vu all over again. Indeed, thanks to goals by Adebayor, Flamini (sick goal too), and Cesc, the Gunners beat Newcastle 3-0 for the second time in three days.
(Have to run into a meeting now… more later if Dan or someone hasn’t added anything by then)
EDIT (the next morning) - Right, well, no one’s added anything. No biggie. Everything’s pretty much been said in the comments below. Newcastle never really threatened, and to be fair, the Gunners could have been two or three up by halftime.
Emmanuel Adebayor shook off any affects from “Buttgate” and scored twice to propel Arsenal past Newcastle in a potentially tricky 4th-round FA Cup tie.
Adebayor scored early in the 2nd half off an Eduaro shot that hit the post, then scored late in the half to put the game away. Nicky Butt added an own goal to cap off the 3-0 win.
Newcastle played an open style, as expected under new(ish) manager Kevin Keegan, but were shut out for the 2nd consecutive match.
