The wait is over. The Emirates stadium will officially usher in the 2008/09 Premier League season as Arsenal’s encounter against West Brom will open Round 1. While all teams start the season level on 0 points, the table starts changing fast after just a few rounds — some teams set an early pace, some scramble to stay on par while others struggle to keep up. Once the games kick-off this weekend, everything a player does (or does not do) counts. Numerous stats will be kept, multiple cameras will capture the players moments and there will be no place to hide.
So sit back,...

For those in Denver without Setanta…
Glenn at Fado’s has assured me that they will be open for the 5:45am MDT kick off. Unfortunately, the British Bulldog (under new management) won’t be open until 7am.
See you at Fado’s!

OK, this is the latest in a series of attempts to unite the seemingly un-unitable Cleveland Area Gooners. I’m going to be watching the WBA match tomorrow morning at Mulligan’s in Strongsville. It’s the only place that I know of that will be open and has Setanta. (At least the barkeep on the phone said they did) I’ve already posted this info on BigSoccer. Anyone interested in joining, I would be much obliged. The friendlies are over. All the injuries have healed nicely. Time for the serious stuff to begin.
Before the Premier League kick-off on Sat, Arsenal’s European journey began on Wednesday night in Enschede with a 2-0 win over FC Twente or as the English papers like to say “Steve McClaren’s FC Twente”.
Analysis, game talk, impressions…over to you guys.

Unless he buys Swiss DM Inler, Wenger is, as he admits, a man short for the season. Okaaayyyy. (Boy, I wish he would team up with Carrie from Sex in the City and learn to really love shopping for more expensive stuff.)
Wenger is basically placing his faith in his relatively young side to improve as dramatically this year as they did last year. Is this blind optimism, Gallic romanticism or a recipe for another season of almost-nearly-great-to-watch-but-heartbreaking-to-support?
The realist in me can’t help think the only way we’ll win the League this year is if...
