Arsenal v Bolton: Match Preview

Thanks to a brief getaway,  Goonerdamus was able to avoid the first recorded digital blue ball at the end of this transfer season. Sadly, Walcott volunteered to be Arsenal’s injury sacrifice for the interlull, while Vermaelen appears to have gone on strike with Fab’s return. Is this the end of the world as we know it? Nope. Just the soap opera of professional footie. Oh yeah, and we face Bolton manana.

Goonerdamus likes to look forward, but we need to take a step back first. The transfer season finally came to a close August 31st and Arsenal fans needed a cold shower. After all the rumors, we picked up Chamakh, Kos and Squillaci (the most terrifying squirrel). Good pickups all. Unfortunately, we did not get a new goalkeeper. So Almunia is our #1 until he isn’t. Goonerdamus is not looking forward to the rumor mill in January

But even with no big name signings, all seemed okay with the raging start to the season by Theo! Theo! Theo! That is until Theo decided to sacrifice himself as the young virgin to the injury gods. At least he did it early in the game, something like the 12th minute, so no other Arsenal player would think they should get hurt as well. I’m sure Walcott just wanted to feel as if he was part of the team. Sigh. Youth.

So Bolton gives Chamakh, Arshavin and Rosicky a chance to shine. This isn’t so bad. All three have something to prove: Chamakh pushing for RVP’s spot; Arshavin because he’s been (self-admittedly) a bit crap lately; and Rosicky, to prove he could be running the squad.

Finally, not to be outdone, Vermaelen has begun speaking about Fab AND about how great Arsenal is. The Belgian is making his move for the captaincy, and frankly, Goonerdamus doesn’t blame him. Too bad V2000 injured his Achilles. But unlike last season, we have real depth this year: Squillaci (the most terrifying squirrel) and Kos.

All in all, the team should be pretty secure for the game: Almunia in the posts. The backline is the French Connection with Clichy, Squillaci (the most terrifying squirrel) getting his first start with Kos, and Sagna. Dj provides cover. The midfield is a rock of stability with Song, Fab and Diaby.  Denilson’s return provides depth along with Wilshere and Nasri providing extra cover. Upfront we have Arshavin, Chamakh, and Rosicky. Vela and even Nasri to cover.

C’MON YOU GUNNERS!
